Question about 1999 Honda VTR 1000 F Firestorm

1 Answer

I have a VTR firestorm and when pulling off sometimes it feels like the clutch slips as the back wheel spins and bike jerks forward. I have to pull the clutch in to stop it from hurtling down the road on one wheel. I am actually pulling off slowly as behind cars so not sure why it does that. I have been riding the bike over the last 8 months and this has happened twice in last week

2 things, first check your clutch plates they can be worn and clutch cable settings as it the clutch plate is too close for engagement.

Why won't my bike go into gear?

Sounds like your clutch has locked up. Most likely the oil that was in your clutch has gummed up and locked the plates together. Pull the clutch in and try rolling the bike back and forth. If the back wheel spins freely then it may be another issue. If it doesn't move try pushing it forward and back either by sitting on it or by standing astride it. If wheel free's up then you should be able to select gears.

My 01 yz125,with a Athena big bore kit- i just rebuilt the top end, took it easy with it for the 2 1/2 hrs i rode it...then i went roll up along side my freind and when i pulled the clutch the bike still...

Raise the back wheel with a stand and see if it starts and wheel spins. With it still on stand kick down thru gears and see if you really are in neutral. Pull in clutch and try to brake back wheel. To me it sounds like a gearbox issue if you really are in neutral (expensive) but could also be a clutch cable (cheap).

The gear that the starter clutch grabs hold of has a smooth collar on the side of it that the clutch grabs a hold of. It has to be smooth (round) , not chattered , if you did not replace the gear also that is why it will not grab.

Cannondale lefty 140 fork jerking movement

Check your headset, if there is any play the bike feels like it is jerking when braking, close your hand around the headset and pull front brake now rock the bike back and forward??? any play in headset? tighten it. If above does not work, check your wheel axle for play lastly you probably need a shock service.

1998 honda vtr firestorm starting problem

Hi Samantha!

Yepp, i know whats wrong. Its the generator on your bike that dosent work properly. The generator dosen charge your battery. So when your drive the engine, the lights, the flash etc take all the power of the battyre and since the genarator coulden charge it properly it dies.
Buy a new, or if you can find a used, generator and replace it, alternative take the generator to someone that can pull it appart and replace the coals in it. Sometimes thats more expensive to change the coals then it is to buy a used one.

Good luck with your bike
Nic
