If you live in USA it would cost a mechanics hourly rate of $60-75 Add GST, in Australia $50 +GST.
If you can find a local motorcycle garage in your area wom are bike specialist should cost less and give equal or better performance than dealers.

Set valve clearance on 21hp briggs and statton

Valve clearances are set by either tappet screws in the lifters or on a lot of small engines, clearances must be set by either cutting out valve seats with a special cutter tool (to DECREASE clearances) or grinding the end of the valve (to INCREASE clearances) and generally are from .008-.010 on intake valves and .010-.012 on exhaust valves. Check engine specs to insure proper clearances.

Tappet setting

Hi, Anonymous .002" intake .004" exhaust for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. How adjust valve clearance

guys mainly the valve gets heated and gets expand so the valve clearance is adjusted . according to my studied knowledge the inlet valve clearance should be perfectly 0.5 mm and the exhaust port must be 0.6 to 0.7 mm. this the perfect tuning for the 2 wheelers . [ remember guys before you set valve clearance make sure that engine is fully cooled condition.....

Whats the cam shims settings and valve clearance settings please for 1990 gsf 400 import

Intake: .004-.006"
Exhaust: .006-.008"

There are no specific settings for shims. Each valve is a little different and the different thickness shims are used to get the clearance in spec. This also changes as the engine wears. If you need any, the shims will have to be purchased at the dealer.

Settings and the valve clearances

Valve Setting is usually done only by authorised service center of Hundai, because if you do the setting wrongly it may hurt the car performance. Kindly go to the car service center or you can get the data only by visiting any Hundai service center directly.

The cost to do the valve clearances on my cbr600fr

Depending where you live and what the labor rate is, the dealer would probably charge you 4 hours. Times $80/hr and taxes etc, you're looking at about $350 bucks.

Valve clearence for briggs and stratton small engine

Without knowing the specifics of the particular engine that you have, I will say that .004 is the general valve clearance specification for most engines today. You should really check a maintenance book for the engine or contact a local dealer for the clearance on your specific engine. On OHV engines, you don't make the adjustment at TDC. You have to bypass the pressure release point by turning past TDC and letting the piston drop 1/4". Then set the valves at .004 clearance for both intake and exhaust. Again, this is a general guideline and it would be best to get the specifics for your particular engine. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Bike currently at 15,500 miles local dealer says it need a major service ie valve stems etc going to cost upwards of 500 pounds is this true? ta

I would check with another dealer or two. 15,500 miles is somewhat low miles relative to the need for new valves. Bad gas and ethanol gas is hard on valves and that may be what caused the need for valve work, assuming the dealer is honest about the bad valves. Most guys buy the four cylinder bikes for speed. They forget that the service cost on four cylinders is a lot more than for a twin.

It could be all that is needed is to reset the valve clearances. Even so, that is probably 150 pounds or so. Whatever you do, get a firm price on the work before giving them the bike.

My 2004 honda cbr 1000rr has a loud rattle and i was told i would need new valves. is this an expensive job?

Needing new valves is highly unlikely. Your bike is only 5 years old.
Before doing anything else, run through a tank of premium gas. If the rattle goes away then a bit of pre-ignition was present. If the rattle is still there, take the bike to a dealer and ask them to reset the cam chain tensioner and set the valve clearances also. This may cost $150 or so. Chances are that if the knocking is still present, you are hearing piston slap. This would require new pistons, rings and probably fresh cylinder bores. Have the shop re-seat the valves while the top end is torn down. Ask the dealer as to cost before handing over the bike.
