Question about 2001 Yamaha WR 426 F

2 Answers

How much oil does the wr426 hold? (1.2 liters ?) is there a special trick to changing the oil? the bike appeared to be low on oil...i added some, then it registered way above full. I drained the oil from the bottom and it still appeared to have oil on the stick. I added half a liter and it appears to be way above the full line again???

When you check your oil level you have to run your engine for a couple of minutes to get the correct oil level as it is a dry sump . If you measure the oil without running motor first it will read low . before running the motor my 426 the oil is just covering the bottom of the dip stick nearly touching the min line . when you drain your oil you should always heat the oil up the longer you can leave it the better . make sure you always remove the oil filter to as this will help the oil to drain . you should be doing this anyway so you can replace or clean the oil filter . I run shells ax7 semi synthetic in both my 2001 426 and 2013 ktm 500 exc and it seems to work fine . I recommend changing the oil every 5 hours . Hope this helps you . good luck

Hello, I have a question concerning my recently purchase 2001 Honda Civic CVT. When purchased we added 1 liter transmission oil, not knowing it needed special transmission oil for CVT's. Other people...

Just drain the oil. DO NOT FLUSH TRANSMISSIONS especially continuous varible transmissions. thats why they won't garantee there work. replace with specified MUGEN oil. its the only oil designed specificaly for HONDA's, pluse mugen is honda's performance company.

I want to tknow the steps of changing oil in the V-Strom 650

14mm wrench. 2. An oil filter wrench, if you're changing the filter. Either a 3/8" drive ratchet or a 17mm wrench to turn the oil filter 3. Oil--you need about 3 quarts of 10W/40. I use synthetic motorcycle oil, MOTUL, but any good oil will probably be fine as long as you change it. Oil filter, if it's being changed--Suzuki pn# 16510-34E00. As a minor note, the sv650(s) needs 2.9Q of oil if you also change the filter, rather than merely changing the oil without changing the
filter (2.4Q). 4. Newspaper, something to catch oil in and a rag. Drain the oil from a warm engine by removing the 14 mm nut on the bottom of the engine on the left side, having first spread newspaper under the bike and put your catch pan underneath. Remember that bolts mostly come out counterclockwise (Righty tighty, Lefty loosey). For directionally challenged, you might have to lay on your back to figure this out. Also remove the filler plug on the right side of the engine to help drainage. If you don't know which is the filler plug, check your owner's manual to find out--under oil. If you're changing the filter, remove it using your special tool. To replace the oil, screw in the drain plug. It should be pretty tight, but don't put all your weight on it. Replace the filter by putting some oil on the gasket, and then turning the filter on till you feel the gasket contact the engine. Using the special tool, tighten it two turns more. Pour oil into the filler, 2.4 US qt, 2.0 imp qt, or 2.3 liters. Start the bike and run it a few minutes. Turn it off and holding the bike level, check the oil level in the sight glass on the right side of the engine. If it's above full, drain a bit out, if below low, add a bit more. Pour the oil into a jug and take it to a recycling center or gas station for disposal, don't just pour it out. Throw away the newspapers, go wash your hands, and go for a ride!

Im changing the transmission oil 10w40. The manuel says to put in about 13ounces but the dealer told me to fill until it overflows out the filler hole. I've put in almost a full liter(canadian) and its...

The transmission fill hole is a 10 mm bolt that sticks out about 2" the run out of the hole is a 14mm bolt an 1"1/2 below that. it looks like a bolt to hold on the clutch cover.
I had the same problem till I read the service manual.

I have a 1994 heritage after changing oil and filling it to the full mark on the dipstick, I rode it 80 miles the next day I checked it again and the oil tank is over filled ???.What happened.

You over filled it, depending on the type of dipstick you have, the oil is checked either on the side stand or with the bike upright. If you have the type of dipstick that is floppy (the stick part flops around) you have to check the oil while the bike is on the side stand.

Regardless Softtails hold 3 quarts of oil, if you add exactly 3 quarts after draining the oil bucket and changing the filter the oil level will be correct (unless the oil has sumped).

The other thing that happens sometimes when the bike sits for any period of time without running the oil can sump from the bucket into the engine crankcase. If this happens it will look like you are low on oil, so if you go adding oil and then run the bike it will unsump and overflow the bucket making a hell of a mess.

Hope this helps you.

Low oil on dip stick

no, in my opinion there was no harm done to the engine. if the dipstick had oil on it when you checked it, then its fine. any time you change oil and filter, let the bike idle until its hot then shut it down and wait a couple minutes and then check oil level.. and add if necessary.
