Question about Yamaha Ybr 125 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a Yamaha Breeze and the starter is weak. Hooked up to a battery charger I can stop it by hand. Can I rebuild them or do I have to replace it? Also can a weak starter cause a relay to go bad? Thx, Ken

I suspect an issue with the battery, as a starter typically would not fail as you describe. Remove the old battery, get a known good battery and try again. A realy can fail, sure, but not likely. I think you may have totally low state of charge in the battery, and the charger often will not overcome the issue.

1996 Yamaha wave blaster 2 760 starter won't engage into the flywheel

Replace it. The least expensive way to do it is to bring it to a place that rebuilds starters & alternators. Last I checked for my wave runner 3 a rebuild was $60 & a new one was $340. Good luck.

Test starter

Generally, this problem is the sign of an undercharged battery. Take a multitester, which should cost less than ten bucks, see how many volts your battery is providing by testing across the poles, on the 20 volt DC range -- red to positive, black to negative. You should see at least 11.5 volts. If you are not reading that much, the battery will not provide enough power to start the motor but will just have enough power to make the starter solenoid click. If you have a battery charger, see if the battery will charge higher. If it will not, your battery must be replaced. As an extra test, when you have the new battery or the recharged battery hooked up, and the engine running, you can make the same test and you should see about 13.2 volts. If you don't get that much, your charging system, i.e., your alternator, is going bad. You can get an auto electric shop to test it and maybe rebuild it at a lower cost than buying a new one. BTW, two things. Batteries tend to go bad fairly quickly, so you could be good one day and next day have a weak battery. And, solenoids do go bad but only rarely.

The charger doesn't do anything. I've charged the charger then hooked it up to the battery (pos on pos, neg on neg) then tried to start the car. No reaction whatever. Is there something else I

It's possible you may have a poor connection from your car to your car battery. Check to make sure both battery terminals are on your battery tight. Tighten them if necessary, then try again. If either one was loose, that should fix the problem. Then there may be nothing wrong with your battery charger.

The bike sat for nine months I kept it in the garage and covered but when try starting nothing happens but oil light

Sounds like the battery may not be charged. Put a charger on the battery, bring to a full charge. Try starting. If it won't crank, locate a load tester and check the battery for weakness/dead cell. If the battery is not the problem, the starter/starter solenoid may have corroded/dirty contacts.

1986 dodge d50 wont start just clicks. Pulled starter off and when I jump it from the battery it will spin.

turn motor by hand to see if its locked up if it turns then you have a weak starter if motor doesnt turn then you have a serious issue could be a timing chain problem or even a valve issue or motor needs rebuild or replaced

Starter spins freely, will not engage

there is a coil that pushes starter out to engage it to flywheel and a motor part that turns it. check to se if the coil part is good or hooked up.

The bike does not start on its own. yet the battery has full voltage.

weak starter, worn brushes or weak carbon springs

need to check voltage drop when cranking

anything less 9.5v is rebuild time
