2003 Harley Davidson FLHR Road king Logo

My 2003 roadking just stopped running and the oil light is on. Can you tell me why it might be on? I've been riding for about half an hour and am now pulled over on the side of the road.

    Hey Dave,

Thanks so much for getting back to me and so quickly too!

I let the bike sit for about 15 mins until it cooled down and it started up again. This has happened a couple times before, (conking out on me,) although the oil light hasn't come on in the past. I have looked into the trouble codes already and replaced the fuel filter as well as installed an FTI. I just found out that there is a recall on the main 40Amp breaker on the 2003 flhpi and i'm going to look into that first.

Thanks again and all the best!

Did the oil light come on while the engine was still running? Do you have power to the rest of the bike? If not, have you checked the battery cables yet to be sure that they are tight? Is the "RUN" switch in the RUN position? Is it carburetted or fuel injected?

thanks so much for your speedy reply. No the oil light came off after it canned out and then turned the ignition back on. There was no power at all, just monster big backfires a couple times. Yes the battery cables are tight. The run switch is in the run position. It's fuel injected.
    thanks!

Very hard to diagnose in this venue. You should check the trouble codes. It varies from model to model, however, you should be able to view the trouble codes by holding the reset button on your speedo while turning on the ignition. Once the ignition is turned on, release the reset button and the first trouble code will appear. Pushing the reset button again will bring up the next code, etc. until all codes have been shown. Unfortunately, you will need to find somebady with a service manual for your make and model, to interpret what the codes refer to, (or call a dealership with a list of the codes that you pulled up). It is possible that you have a loose harness plug that would cause these types of issues. It is also possible that the fuel pump feed line, (in the tank), has ruptured causing a lack of fuel pressure to operate the injector system. Too many variables to diagnose without more information. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help...Dave

Need to reset my oil service light on my john deere lawn mower can you tell me how?

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.
The light (blinking notification on digital read out) will come on 1/2 hour before and remain on for 1/2 hour after the interval. If you pass your model number I can paste the notification data. It is NOT re-setable.

How Does Your Hour Meter Function? Model Year
Model Number and Product Identification Number Groups. Is the tractor equipped with an hour meter? Does it accumulate hours with the key switch left "ON", but not running? How long does the service reminder (SVC) display before and after service intervals? Does the Hour meter stay lit or display hours when the key is in the" OFF" position? Does the hour meter only count hours when the engine is running?

Hi, the meter flashes oil change when they are due(at pre-programed intervals) and will stop flashing two running hours after flashing starts. The hours that are showing are total running hours from new. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

This sounds like a problem with "idle mixture" There is usually a simple screw with a spring around it on the carb to adjust it. With the engine running warm and idling, be sure that the choke is wide open, and turn that screw in (clockwise) a half a turn. From there, fine tune clockwise to the point that the engine runs rough or 'surges' . Then back it out counterclockwise ¼ turn. That usually gets the fouling and poor running back to normal.

Have 1 2005 kx125 have about 6 hours on bike.

Welcome to the world of 2-strokes. It is normal to have some oil residue build up each time it runs. You have to wipe them up frequently. You could have the dealer check to be sure the oil injector is set correctly but DO NOT attempt any adjustments of your own. Always use the highest quality 2-stroke oil you can afford. Enjoy riding like a bat-out-of-hell...

have an oil pressure test performed - should only cost around a half hour of diagnostic labor. this will tell you if you have a real oil pressure problem, or a bad sensor.

Fork Oil CBR954

There are three most common weights of fork oil. 5W is a light oil for a smoother ride, 10W is a heaver oil for stiffer suspension and 15W is mainly used for a stiffer ride such as racing. I have found 20W and 25W oils but they are not that common.
If you are a pleasure rider 5W or 10W would be the right oil for you. If you are always "in the twisties" and riding the limits of the bike, go with the 15W.

2003 VW Passat "Oil Press, Turn Off Engine" and "STOP" Light

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.
