Erratic speedometer causing miss shifting. Seems to only happen with Security codes or possibly other engine codes as well. the latest issue im haveing seems to be security of some kind.maybe a bad chip in the key? i have a long history with new parts in this car. Includeing ignition,new keys, transmission redone with shift kit and hardened gears. what is causeing the speedo to go haywire? which is causing my tranny to act up. is it simply because of another code? I have had my car in GM 3 times because of this issue and the tranny place twice! No one is able to Resolve it. PLEASE HELP! ps no related codes of any kind at this time. replaced speed sensor once allready, reset all codes includeing security codes by GM - was a short term fix.

Propably the VSS - vehicle speed sensor . The PCM uses this input to control shifting an speedometer information . Or a wiring issue . If you think there are othe codes stored in the computer the wise thing to do would be to have read or pull . You don't say what engine size yours is ? 3.1 L or the 3.8 L ? How many key's do you have on your car key ring ? Have other car key's ? confusing the control module . Speedometer
The IPC displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the PCM. The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4000 pulses/mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit (4000 pulses/mile) from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. The speedometer defaults to 0 mph (0 km/h) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal circuit (4000 pulses/mile) exists.

SOURCE: Key won't come out of the ignition.

yes, there is a shiftlock sensor, so you can only take the key out when in park.
Getting at it requires removal of the center console.
When you have it in park - give it a little tap forward before turning off the vehicle.

for 94 grand prix there is no passkey rest , all what u need to do is take the old key to the dealer and ask them for new key lock cylinder it should have a 2 white wire replace the key lock cylinder and everything will be good
* you should have the old key with you

SOURCE: 2003 pontiac slips on 2-3 shift and does not down shift all the

who ever rebuilt trns missed something poss pcs solenoid, seals leak in input housing,seals or support housing leak,worn valvle in valve body, did he clear shift adapts, did he check for codes, did he do a press check, did he flush cooler nice trns overhaul good thing you got a warranty on job

It's an exhaust valve inside the transmission, when the solenoid isn't working right, the pressurized fluid can't exhaust through the passages, which can cause rough shifting. It has to be taken to a transmission shop, the transmission pan has to be dropped and possibly the valve body to get at the solenoid. Hope this helped.

Trans shifting prob n gas mileage

have the shift solenoid checked out
Auto Zone will perform a free scan of the computer to dee which one is at fault

Speedometer runs erratic and transmissions drops to second gear.

The ECM or TCM may be the culprit, its also possible that a ground wire is no longer grounded or partially grounded giving you the erratic speedometer.
