I have a 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo with a 350 V-8 engine and a 2 barrel carb. At 45 miles per hour, the vehicle acts like it is running out of gas. Electric system all replaced, tuned up, new fuel pump, filter, and lines. Gas tank has already been dropped, cleaned, and installed back in. Lines have been blown out via high pressure air hose. Any ideas??

Check the fuel filter located inside of the fuel inlet at the carburetor and be certain that it is installed correctly with the inlet hole in the filter facing out towrds the fuel line and that it is not installed backwards.

Already replace it with a new one...still same problem. Entire fuel system is new, including fuel pump, filter, carb rebuilt, tank is clean as new.

SOURCE: Ford F100 Fuel System

how hard was it to pump it by hand?Iwould be suprised if a mechanical fuel pump could be easily pumped by hand as the spring pressure required to hold the arm against the eccentric is considerable If its a cleveland or windsor you cannot pump by hand.I own a 1980 running a cleveland and found that if you put an electric pump as close to the fuel tank as possible and have a good original mechanical pump fuel delivery is no longer a problem.I had to do this as soon as i went to a 600 holley as the original pump was not able to supply sufficient flow.the electric pump doesnt have to be an expensive hi volume type,it only has to help to get fuel to the mechanicl pump

Ck your exhaust pipe at rear of car noting any obnoxious smell like rottrn eggs. Hold a piece of paper, I use a dollar bill ,in in front of the exhaust. If it blows the paper gently, you have a catalyctic converter going or is bad. Will need replace if so.

SOURCE: need to find a manual for a rochester carb 4

You should be able to find or order a Haynes manual, part # 10230, for Rochester carbs at you local auto parts store. If not then faxonautoliterature has the GM service manual for your car and it will have a section on rebuilding carbs. Hope this helps.

My 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo kind of spits and sputters while driving. What could be the problem?

There are several potential issues that could be causing your 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo to spit and sputter while driving. Here are a few possibilities:
  1. Fuel delivery issues: If your engine is not receiving the correct amount of fuel or air, it can cause hesitation or rough idling. This could be due to a clogged fuel filter, a malfunctioning fuel pump, or a problem with the air intake system.
  2. Ignition system issues: A faulty spark plug, ignition coil, or other component of the ignition system can cause misfires, which can make the engine hesitate or sputter.
  3. Emissions system issues: Your vehicle's emissions system is designed to reduce harmful pollutants in the exhaust. A malfunctioning component of this system, such as the oxygen sensor, can cause the engine to run poorly.
  4. Electrical issues: A damaged or worn electrical component, such as a sensor or relay, can cause the engine to run rough or stall.
  5. Transmission issues: If your vehicle is experiencing transmission problems, such as slipping or shifting issues, it can cause the engine to hesitate or sputter.
To determine the exact cause of the problem, it's best to have your vehicle diagnosed by a certified mechanic. They can perform a diagnostic scan to check for any error codes or issues with the engine, transmission, or emissions system.

Wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

Chevy monte carlo won't start????

sounds to me like your coil packed it in or your timing belt ( chain ) has jumped a tooth. If you have access to a scanner run a diagnostic check on your car to see if it comes up with any trouble codes.
