Clutches are to far worn or adjustment is needed . if you adjust do it
a turn and check, if needed ? do it some more. until clutch feels right . if it is to far gone it wont last long even with adjustment.

The transmission in my 2001 mitsibishi mirage makes a jump or kick back sound when it hits 20 mph. Does that mean I need a transmission flush?

It is definitely having a hard shift, but if it has over 100k in milage I would only advise an additive to improve shift quality. It could be a servo seal sticking and causing the harsh shift or you could have a bad planetary drive gears. Have the transmission tested for drum pressures to know for sure what your problem is and if pressures are fine and clutch packs work then it will be a sticky servo piston or worse case senario the planetary gears.

What causes hard sticky shifting on 5-speed manual transmission. The manual transmission was almost 1/2 quart low when I changed the gear oil.

If the shift lever is what is hard & sticky, get some grease & lube the handle at the joint at the trans. ( Maint. anyway) . The right gear oil? Was it doing it before the oil chg ? How's the clutch feel? Clutch, Pressure plate & throw out bearing poss. Smell any burning smells? One step at a time. Good luck

Hits hard when put into reverse and drive

ok its either bad motor/trans mounts or a trans issue. check the mounts by power-braking. put it in drive or reverse, foot hard on brake, and give it a little gas. if the car is banging and jumping you need new mounts. or it might be a transmission issue. then the problem would be bad/low fluid or something called a parking pawl. which is how your gear is slected. basically if its not the mounts, its the trans and you should take it to a local trans shop for the best labor cost.

My car has 77,000 miles on it. It shifts thru all gears fine and seems the converter locks up at 40mph and then at 50 I see the tach jump 300 rpm like it comes out or that is when it suppose to shift into...

I would recommend that you run a can of Seafoam (there is one specifically for transmissions) in your transmission, then change the fluid and filter. You may have a sticky valve body in the transmission, or a dirty filter.

Jumps out of 5th gear

syncro is a little round instead of square liped

1 too many grinders usually requires a rebuild of the trans or go to auto recyclers and get a new used trans

My 2006 dodge 2500 with 48RE Transmission is not shifting out of 2nd properly. The transmission holds the gear and then sometimes surges. Seems to be a control issue, not mechanical. What do you think it...

I had the same problem, Replace the govenor pressure sensor. There is a TSB out for this as well, I replaced bolth sensors that are mounted in the valve body of the trans. When I did mine I also adjusting the bands and now it is like a new trans. It was not hard and all the information can be found by searching. I think the sensors ran about $148 for bolth. You will need to remove the trans pan to complete this job if you are doing this. Hope this helps out.
