The car does not crank or start. The battery is new . The starter works if bypassed at the solenoid but the car runs only a few seconds. The security light flashes. Both keys are the same. Ideas?

If security is flashing, that is your problem. You have VATS, which fortunately has a relatively simple bypass of the ignition switch (I assume the problem is in the steering column).
