Where are the connection points to remove the seat on my 1997 Kawasaki VN 800 A? I have the fender bolt out; the side rails holding the rear fender off; but still cannot find what is holding the seat in place.

There is a hook-like bracket that secures it to the fender. It takes a little "oomph", but you should be able to slide the seat aft and release it.

How to take gas tank off 1997 kawaski vulcan 800 classic

Disconnect the gas line from the petcock (should be in ON or RES position). Remove the seat. Remove the bottom bolt of the dash and lift it up, then disconnect the two wiring harnesses and the speedo cable. Remove the bolt under the dash on the frame mount and the bolt at the rear of the tank. Lift the tank, and you can disconnect the one or two (CA models) vent lines. Place the tank so that the weight is not resting on the petcock.

How to get front wheel off 1600 kawasaki vn it is very tight

Most bikes that I have seen, the front axel has a hole on one side and the retaning bolt on the other. Use a screwdriver that will fit in the hole to hold one side while racheting out the bolt on the other.Make sure you have a proper lift jack as you might have to jake the bike up to get the wheel past the front fender.

Remove the seat

First, remove the pillon seat behind the driver seat. Use a metric socket wrench to remove the mounting bolt at the back center of the pillon. Note the 'retaining strap' over the pillon. You can remove one of the side screws that hold this strap and swing it aside, but this is not absolutely necessary. Once the pillon mounting bolt is out, lift the pillon slightly and pull it to the rear. Be careful not to let metal parts scratch your rear fender. Now look at the hex socket bolts holding the driver seat to the rear fender. These are removed with a metric hex wrench (Allen wrench). Don't mess with these unless you can fit the bolt socket exactly. There should be a hex wrench in your Vulcan toolkit. When these have been removed, the driver seat can be lifted up and back to remove. It's a real mess under there, isn't it? To re-install, reverse the order of the above -- driver's seat goes in first, bolts secured and then the pillon. Don't force anything. If either seat is hanging up above its mounting position, you don't have the seat 'tongue' in its socket.
