If it is going to slip, 5th is where you will notice it first, so it may need new plates, the alloy ones can wear as well as the fibre ones.
Make sure you are using four stroke motorcycle engine oil ( car oils can cause clutch slip due to friction modifiers)

A rough check of the clutch can be done by placing the front wheel against a solid wall, selecting 5, and a handfull of revs, drop the clutch, the engine should stop immediately, if it spins over even a couple of times with the clutch out, it is slipping and needs work.

for ur overheating problem it could be a clogged radiator or radiator hose. try pressure washing the radiator fins and maybie clean it out a bit and for the clutch it could be wear on ur clutch cable. let me know if this helped. thanks

My 1995 sentra shifts fine in all gears but when i accelerate in 4th or 5th gear it the rpms wind up and the car doednt real respond feels like its in the accelerater do i need a new clutch

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. If the clutch is bad, it will slip in high gears (4th & 5th) but seem to work fine in lower gears. Clutch probably needs replaced but have a mechanic check it out first because it's a fairly expensive job. If your clutch is actuated via a cable (not hydraulic), it may just need adjusting.

I would suspect the pressure plate and clutch need replacing. Your truck is 22 years old and if it has never had the clutch replaced you can almost bet it needs a new clutch and pressure plate. It slips in 4th & 5th gear due to the fact the the ratio is high and it takes more pressure to hold the clutch in place.

If she's slipping, she's slipping, no way around that new looking or not. They are probably glazed, and will need replacement.

My Harley 883 Sportster suddenly became stuck in 5th gear.

More than likely the shifter pawl has broken. Breaking in 5th gear is kind of unusual however, they usually break between first and second.

You'll have to remove the outer primary cover to look at the shifter pawl. It's partially covered by the clutch assembly.

While riding, the 4th and 5th gears do not engage promptly when you clutch and shift the gear. It sort of goes into neutral as one disengages the clutch and accelerate and then falls in place (ie 4th or...

This behavior is the symptom that your clutch plates are getting worn out. Since power is transmitted from the cam shaft to the front sprocket (smaller dia) is better at lower gears but once the rpm increases the clutch plates do not catch up with the cams rotation, hence slipping at higher gears & in between 4th & 5th gears the pulling power of the engine seems to go to neutral before engaging again. Check your clutch plates as well as the sprocket-chain- rear sprocket for wearing out of the gear teeth & replace if required. You will get back full power & acceleration as when the bike was new.............sodeep
