Question about TM Racing Mx 250 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a TM 250 around 2000 model. i swapped it for my gas gas txt 280 with someone local. he had bike running fine then water got into stator and so messed up and burnt out stator. he cut wires off stator and off cdi for some strange reason. i bought a new stator and fitted it today, wired it up using colour co-ordination and then kicked it over to find still no spark, when holding white n blue wire which goes into the ignition coil it gives a shock but when plug is in or i connect it to the ignition coil no shock is given. any help appreciated as im tearing my hair out, i have a multimeter but dont know what readings or where to be testing

Hi, Cal_h and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a "LOAD" test, your battery may show 12.5 volts but has little or zero amps and must be replaced.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting, leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or CDI or electronic control module.
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

G'day i am a . YZ 125 j ...lets see now! You could perform these tests yourself.Check your plug CAP,if in doubt replace it with a new one. Take the below ohm figures and see if they match up. Pulse coil: white/blue and white/red= 310 ohms. low speed coil: Green/white and Black/red= 900 ohms. high speed coil: Green/blue and black= 55 ohms. hope this has helped in some way to helping you solve your problem. If it has please leave feed back.Ride hard , see ya,Tabbycat

SOURCE: wire connector between stator & voltage reg/rectifier burnt

your voltage/reg. can be tested in a couple different ways check ground res. check res. then revs. bias on diodes you have ac in dc out it sounds like you may have a diode gone bad allowing ac curent to flow causing the wires to get hot

SOURCE: no spark

check for the wiring...we used to bought some of those atv hummer style...and there is no continuity in the wiring because of bad terminal connexion to the inside brush of the cable...or you have a faulty stator....coil and cdi is not the main problem on those cheap engine....loncin,bears,zongshen....

SOURCE: NO SPARK ON A 98 RM 125

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, test for the presence / absence of below described voltages using an analog / needle type voltmeter when starting the bike:

  • pulsating low AC voltage coming from the pickup coil;
  • pulsating voltage feeding the ignition coil.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

My battery goes dead , and its new . bike isnt charging .. what could be the problem also , the model is a kz1000

It may be the stator coils or the regulator.
the stator should have 3 wires coming out, any pair of these should have the same resistance.
no resistance or shorted to earth-stator no good.
with the bike running these three (any pair) put out around 50vAC
so if this is normal ,then its probably the reg\rectifier.
volt meter across the battery will read 12v bike stopped and rise to 13-14v dc bike running if all is well.

voltages can vary between bikes and models, but these should give some idea

I bought a 03 zx-636 that was laid down on the stator cover and bent the flywheel will the batt not charge if the stator and flywheel is rubbing the stator

Correct, the bike will not charge. Aside from that, if the flywheel is actually bent, and it sounds that it is, you will need a new crankshaft and probably a new stator. Without major repairs the bike will never run again. The crank will cost around $650 and the stator will cost around $330 and if the flywheel has been damaged ( it probably has been ) it will cost around $330 as well. The cost for the repair shop will be around $2000 to $3000. The bottom line is that you got taken by the guy who sold it to you. He knew full well the repairs would be far more than the bike was worth. Unless you can get a good engine from a salvage yard, you are pretty much hosed. Google motorcycle salvage kawasaki and see what you can find. I am sorry about the situation. Best of luck to you. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Engine timing and cam chain set up. I need to find out about Engine timing and cam chain set up for my TM racing 250 4stroke MX bike. Does anyone know where i can get a workshop manual...

Hi, Mrassembly the vast majority of service, parts, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 sometimes more and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available, then there is eBay where you may be able to find what you need at a very high price because of its age and rarity. Most of the "FREE" manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. To download your manual please click on the blue links below. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

This is a shot in the dark but a potential "fix" that won't cost anything to try is to drain the carbs. Water can condensate in the gas tank and collect in the gas tank ( at the gas valve ) and carb float bowls. Since water does not burn well as a fuel, it can cause sputtering and uneven running. Enough water build up and the bike won't run at all.

I have a 2000 yzf that will not Fire.

The stator is a magnet that passes over coils. This generates the electrical current that is then amplified by the coil to create a spark. yes the stator is needed to create the fire.

Gear Box Oil Spec

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands of oil. Husky is a different breed. Today's bikes use the 10w40.

STALLING AND LOSING POWER WHILE RIDING

If battery is running down. The engine may not be charging the battery. Check charging system. If running on battery, the bike will run fine for awhile then die as the battery can no longer provide spark to the engine. If charging system is less than 13.0 volts could be a ad stator or regulator. Make sure the battery posts are clean, a bad ground can cause problems too.

2003 Yamaha wrf 250 only runs with the choke on

possibly water in your fuel.... it's a small tank so just put about a quarter bottle of gas line antifreeze in the tank... it's alcohol so it will **** up the water. there is also the possibility the fuel is somewhat dirty... change the fuel filter as well

Headlight

violet i have checked the ground at the headlight and it is good. I also get no power at the yellow wire coming from the stator i do get power from the white wire coming from the stator. If i disconnect the wires from the headlight i then get no power from the white wire off the stator. if i disconect the yellow wire from the stator i also get no power from the white off the stator all connections seem to be fine and the bike runs great. the bulb is good please help! thanks all.,It sounds like you may have lost the stator ground or one of the windings is open. Measure the resistance from the yellow wire to ground and from the white wire to ground. Each winding should be less than 1 ohm to ground. You should also be able to measure resistance across the white and yellow leads. Here again, less than 1 ohm. __________________,,,
