Question about 2008 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure

2 Answers

My R1200GS 2006 is issuing a error code EWS. Ring antenna has been replaced without any progress. BMW diagnose tool has no connection with ECU. The CANbus cable is measured and ok. For the moment the bike is at BMW repair shop. Best regards, Johan.

Hi and thank you for the answer, I have in fact an factory alarm installed. The ring antenna has been replaced, but it doesn't help. The whole thing started after a maintenance work. It started up after this work a couple of times and when the bike was going to be set into a dyno to adjust/program the Power Commander V, that was installed at the same time, the tech "drop" the clutch and the motor stopped due to that. After this the error code have been issued. It is not acceptable that I as a the customer has to find solutions when the bike is at authorized work shop, but now something needs to happen. The main thing here is that not either the BMW diagnose tool is communicating with the bike. I have put on HID in the front and LED at the rear, and these are not "original parts". BMW Sweden claims that these might be the reason, but for me it sounds very strange when the parts have been attached and working for more than one year. Not a single error code has been issued from the CANbus telling that things are wrong. The neutral indicator and gear indicator are not lit, according to the tech.
    Regards Johan.

If its a europeon build vehicle then you will not communicate with the ECU ,so if your in america then even the dealer will not have the software to sort it out ,it has to be connected to internet and BMW called up ,then it disconnects and BMW call back to check the computer IP is a dealer and not a dodgy hide my IP thing and then and only then can it be diagnosed after the authorised operator puts his or her fingerprint scan into computer to open it up .

Hi, EWS is German acronym for the security encoded key and transponder.
Does your bike have a factory alarm on it? That could be the cause.
If you don't have a factory alarm, then you have to replace the transponder ring around the hey hole because the ring around the key hole challenges the key for the correct chip code to permit startup..
