Contact me off forum and I'll send you some information on how the system works. The info I have is out of a 1994 manual but it's probably still good and I don't think Harley has changed the gauge's principle of operation. Contact me directly as wd4ity@bellsouth.net This forum will not allow files of over 150kb to be sent. Remind me of what you need as I get many request for information from many sources.

Good Luck
Steve

Fuel gauge reads full when half empty also ignition switch sometimes does not work

Hi Anonymous, you could have a faulty sending unit or guage, there could be a problem with your wiring. On models with the fuel gauge posing as a left hand fuel cap the gauge is a press fit do not try to unscrew it, simply ample force lift up in a rocking motion to remove gauge. Disconnect wires to the gauge and with a set of positive and negative jumpers from the battery connect the positive jumper and flash the negative, gauge should peg full, if not replace gauge. With a test light check for power to the sending unit, then remove the sending unit and manually operate the float arm slowly with the correct wiring hooked up to the fuel gauge and sending unit and the ignition on, the gauge should respond accordingly if not replace the float arm assembly. Hi Anonymous, remove your fuel gauge sending unit and hook it back up to the fuel gauge and manually move the float arm up and down to see if it registers on the gauge. Good luck.

Do I check oil in 2007 heritage softail on jiffy stand or straight up?

Hi Anonymous, the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. Good luck

My 2005 Softtail Deluxe gas gauge registers full all the time. I am thinking that the float is stuck but cann't see how to get to it to check it. When I turn the bike off the gauge needle goes down as...

This is quite common on these fuel gauges. Harley fuel gauges are not that good in my opinion. I can send you a troubleshooting guide for the gauge. Your layout may be different but the principle of operation is the same. Contact me at wd4ity@bellsouth.net Don't forget to remind me of what you need.

Gauge will power up. .. stays on full, turn power off gauge goes back to empty. won't show fuel level

If you'll contact me directly, I'll send you some information on the fuel gauge. The info is or a 1994 FXDWG but the gauge works the same way on all Harley bikes. They may be laid out a bit different but the principle is the same. Contact me at wd4ity@bellsouth.net and I'll send you the information. This forum only allows files no bigger than 150Kb and they're bigger than that. Don't forget to remind me of what you want, I get lots of request for info.

Considering how tricky the fuel sending unit is to remove for some people Im gonna reccomend you take it to the dealer simply because even seasoned techs break things in the tank
