White smoke is usually burning oil.
If you have a dead cylinder, then you may have poked a hole in the piston, allowing the combustion chamber to burn oil.
If your piston is not ruined, then your rings are. If you are "puking" or burning an excessive amount of oil, then your rings are bad, cylinder may need re-honing, or you may need valve guide work. Good luck.
