Turn on ignition. Use a starter power pack or a decent 12V battery with jump leads this bypasses the starter circuit, connect the neutral lead to earth on the bike and touch the live to the starter motor live terminal, this will spin the starter motor and inturn the engine if the starter motor is in good condition.
If this works you are into starter circuit see my last post!

Wires on starter but wont start will start with screwdriver whats wrong

The solenoid on a starter receives voltage when you turn your ignition switch to the start position that tells it to activate the starter. When you use the screwdriver to start the car, you are basically bypassing the solenoid on the starter. Since the car won't start when you turn the key, this means that either the solenoid is bad and the starter needs to be replaced, or the solenoid is not getting the voltage from your ignition switch that tells it to engage the starter. You might be able to eliminate the ignition switch as the problem if you get somebody to hold the key in the start position while you check to see if there is voltage at the starter solenoid. If you have voltage there, the starter solenoid is most likely bad, and the starter needs to be replaced.

How can you tell is a start is bad?

Grab your DVOM and check for voltage all the way to the starter. That is start checking from the battery to the starter solenoid all the cables until you get to the starter. It's time consuming but effective. If you don't want to do that then Disconnect the battery, climb under the car and remove the starter. Take it to NAPA or where ever and have them test the starter on the diagnostic machine. It'll either be good or bad then you have the choice of buying a new starter or not. What makes you think your starter is bad? Does it just click when trying to start it? Maybe your battery is bad?

How can you tell if your starter is goin bad

A bad starter will kill a battery real quick. If you can find a DC amp-meter compare it to factory specs, or similar car starters. A bad starter will make a grinding noise, or give false tries where the starter spins free without engaging the motor. Of course, a bad starter will not spin at all, just make sure the relay is working.

Tecumseh starter 13.5 hp wont turn over only a click on murray 405005x99a

It might be the start solenoid, or the starter motor. Best way to tell is to Jumper across the heavy (High Current) solenoid terminals. If the starter turns, the solenoid is bad. If not, the starter is bad.

I have a 2004 hyundai accent. the starter went bad two weeks ago, and a friend and I replaced it. (it wnt without warning ) The other day, it went again. I'm told it could be in the ignition. That it's not...

if this starter "went bad" by refusing to work (run)
replace your ignition switch: it's behind the ignition lock on the steering column.
ignitions do not tell starters to do anything: the ignition switch key turns the starter on and, a spring returns the key to off when you release it turning the starter off.
