Sounds like an ignition problem, have you checked for spark at the plugs? If so the timing cup on the end of the camshaft may have come loose. You'll have to take the timing cover off the nosecone, mark the position of the timer plate and remove it. Check the "cup" to see if it's tight. If it is, the timing sensor might be bad. I don't know of any way to test the timer sensor, we simply try a new one but some dealers will not accept electrical parts on return if that's not the problem. Check your spark and repost.

Good Luck

Oh yes, those good old mechanical advance units. If you haven't ordered the parts yet, consider this. Replace the ignition system with an electronic aftermarket unit that eliminates the mechanical advance unit. The Crane HI-4 is one such unit. If you replace your mechanical unit, make sure you get one of the "needle bearing" type units. Still, you need to pull the plate and service the unit at least once a year. All the manufacturers of aftermarket ignitons make a model that will eliminate this aggrevating device and replace it with a timing cup like the one on all the later model Evolution engines.

    Good Luck

Back fires at 2000rpms left pipe only

If you're running stock pipes, the rear pipe splits.
Half goes to the left, the other half merges with the front going out the right.

You state just the left pipe "pops", so the first thing to check is for an exhaust leak on the left pipe, starting where it splits and working your way back.

have you checked to see what the fuel pressure is? I have a 2002 ultra classic and it just got where it wouldn't hardly run. Fuel pressure is supposed to be between 55-63 psi. Mine was 30. I changed fuel filter and regulator and went from 30 to 63.

Going up hill engine shut down

Not enough information for us to make a suggestion. You say the engine shut down? Is the engine seized up or will it start back up? Did the engine make a noise before it shut down? Did it sputter or cough before it shut down? We need more information before we can make any suggestions.

Fuel injected electra-glide stalls frequently

D: could be a coil, temperature (heat) can cause an open internally. Could also be the cam rotor sensor (more likely) located under the timing plate on the right side crank case (2 rivits or screws). you can cause this to happen for testing with a hair dryer. Start bike cold, and heat item in question and see if it shut's down early. Could possibly be an ECU, but when they fail it's usually done for good.

Call your local dealer and have them run your vin( Vehicle Identification Number ) through HD Net to see if you have any outstanding recalls. There was a recall on the circuit breaker and the ignition switch around that time of production. better to be safe than sorry.
