Question about 2006 Jawa 350 Style

Open Question

I have a 638 model 1988. Try as I may I cannot get the clutch to cease dragging, and the gears to change quickly or cleanly. The slickshift mechanism seems to be the problem. Can one discard it, and reroute the clutch cable?

1. Is it a new bike for you? or do you own it for a while?
2. try checking the clutch. it might need tightning. try from the lever on the top. if you don't know how to, then ask a mechanic.

3. check if you need to "rev it up". when lowering a gear, you let go of the throttle, pull the clutch, give a quick twist of the throttle (pull and let go) while lowering a gear to match the rev's of the engine to the gear, and ease of the clutch off.

4. check you oil level. Some bikes are very sensitive to low oil. My v strom when hitting half, will start acting out with the gear.

Sounds like the syncros are worn its common with these vehicles the baulk rings and cones on the syncros are absolute useless and a so called good driver who changes gears without giving the syncros a chance to work will cause this problem .You know the type normally sales reps who think they are lewis hamilton and ram the gears home with no thought as to the damage they are doing to the gearbox or even care as its lease vehicle ,Only one cheaper alternative and thats to learn how to double the clutch on each gear change or ask a mechanic to check the clutch for you in case its a problem their with a bent dragging clutch plate or a waek pressure plate .I have had a car from nearly new with 257.000Kms on the clock and only just changed the clutch gearbox is still like the day it came from the factory .

Gs1100gl, cant change gears. clutch is very hard to pull in.

I cant remember if those still had a clutch cable, if it does, remove the cable and check the inner moves freely, or get a new cable, adjust it up until there is a small amount of freeplay at the lever, and see if it changes gears then.
The rod that is activated by the clutch arm can sieze up in the casing as well and may need cleaning and greasing

1988 Honda VT1100 Clutch problem

hi,might be able to help, there is probably nothing wrong with your master cylinder assembly, what has happened is that the clutch plates have stuck together, there are two ways to fix it,one is easy one not quite so easy, try the easy one first, what i normally do in this case is start the bike, roll down a hill or get someone to push you just to get moving, pull in the clutch, change up into second gear,to get the gear box working, change up into the highest gear you can(you dont need the clutch to change up)all the while you are still holding the clutch lever in,get up to a reasonable speed say 20-30 mph, keep the throttle open a little, keep the clutch lever in and start applying the brakes,it may take a few meters but the plates will let go and normal clutch operation should return,as the plates free up,the second option is to remove the engine cover dissasemble the clutch pack and free the plates manually, personally,i have always used the first method, sounds complicated but is actually very simple to do and will save a lot of time and frustration, give it a go first before you pull your bike apart, this is quite a common problem on bikes that have been sitting for a while..hope this helps..cheers

If I remember correctly the clutch is cable driven & you adjust it by pulling up on the clutch pedal quickly. I think there was a little mechanism on back of pedal arm, that would move slightly by doing this. Although it may be time for a new assy, it's worth a try.
