3 things spring to mind

1, the starter can jam- this can be checked by taking jump leads and battery or a starter pack connect the neutral lead to the body of the starter and touch the live to the main terminal on the motor it should spin the engine over makesure you are not in gear

2, starter solanoid- again an easy check there are 2 large terminals on the top, bridgeing these with a heavy duty screwdriver ( it will spark when arked) will by pass the solaniod spinning the motor there is also an indipendant fuse on the side of it. If this works unplug the conector then you need to touch both of the expodes spades with a 12 volt supply this will involve useing two screwdriver blades ensure you get the terminals correct by checking the live terminal.

3, now is the difficult bit, if both of the first parts allow the motor to spin over it is a wiring fault the most likly fault is the starter button they can burn out unfortunatly if this is the case you will have to ether rebuild the switch involving making new brass contacts or replace the entire switch unit much easier but more expensive, again if the switch is ok you are now into checking plugs for damage and corrosion als check each cable for conductivity with a multimeter.

NB if the starter works on direct contact but not on the bridging of the solanoid chech the master earth and live terminals on the battery and the earth terminal to frame.

your starter button has a short or bad (dirty) connection. try using a multi-meter an test the ohms. first the test the amount of voltage crossing the switch.

Have 2003 Honda Sabre. All electrical working fine. New battery. When I press starter button nothing happens. Could there be a blown fuse. All 10amp fuses good

Chances are that that problem is not fuse related. It is more likely you have a defective starter button. The starter button does two things. First, it turns off the headlight and , second, it activates the starter solenoid. If your starter solenoid clicks when you push the starter button, the starter button is good. If nothing happens when you press the starter button it may be dirty or broken. Try taking the switch apart and cleaning the button contacts.
Next go to the starter solenoid and try jumping the power from one solenoid post to the other. You can use a jumper cable clamp, a screw driver, or touch the two cables together, this sends power directly to the starter. If the starter works now you have a bad solenoid (burnt internal contact points).
If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer or back of a screw driver and the starter works , you need new starter brushes. There are no other parts (other than brushes) available for the starter from Honda. If the bearings are bad or the armature is shorted you will have to replace the starter assembly.

Head lights dont work all other lights ok and bulb ohms out ok

The problem is either: The head lamp fuse. Check this first. If the fuse is okay, make sure you've got battery voltage to the fuse. If not, clean the starter button contacts. Besides crancking the starter, the starter button also cuts power to the headlight when you press it. Sometimes if you press the starter button and let it release firmly (by sliding your thumb off of it, letting it snap outward), will fix this type of problem.

1979 CX500. When you push the start button why does light dim

The starter button when pushed in half way turns the power off to the lights so more electricity can be used for powering the ignition and starter at the same time. If you press lightly you can turn off the lights with out engaging the starter. Pressing all the way down engages the starter. The button is a two position switch. Carefully take it apart , clean it and put it back together and you may fix the problem.I have three old Honda motorcycles that all have right hand switch assemblies wired to them from other bikes (Because the original was no longer available) You should be able to rewire any Honda two cable switch too work on your bike.

Hi it sounds like the starter solinoid or starter relay is not working or there could be a loose wire or the starter motor is faulty
