SOURCE: i have a thunderace and the rev counter keeps

7000 rpm is a self diagnostic code that either your exup valve is not being detected or the valve is locked up and not moving. If you put a header on your bike and took over the exup valve servo motor, you are going to have to put it back on. It also changes the mapping of the ECU and will not let it rev to redline when the Exup servo motor is missing.

SOURCE: I have an Y Reg XJR 1300 SP, Rev Counter

This happens every time you first turn the bike on, just before you hit the start switch, right? That's normal...your bike has a "brain" that goes through a systems check when you turn the key.

SOURCE: the rev counter goes from 0 to 7000 revs then back

that is the indication of the exup valve malfunctioning. it tosses the code of 7000 rpm for a few seconds on start up to let you have an indication that there is a problem.

Rev counter activates when ignition is turned on ,but wont work when engine running

This is usually caused by a broken sender wire. Check the cable for tight bends from the sender unit up to the rev counter, you will probably have to purchase a new sender unit.
Hope this helps.

Hi my yzf 750 has an intermitant rev counter keeps flicking to 7-8000 revs then back down..is it meter or sender what do you think ? thanks Rich oxford

the tachometer is electronically controlled through the CDI unit and when it flicks like that, that part of the cdi is going bad i recommend to find a used one cause a new one gets really expensive

My 1999 R1 rev counter just shoots upto 7000 when on tickover

Its a self diagnostic feature. It is telling you either the TPS is unplugged, the fuel level sensor is unplugged, or the EXUP valve is unplugged or frozen and not moving.
