Alot of techs recommend using the higher wattage ICs to replace the stock ones, which is never a good idea since the resistors get stressed. Upgrading to the STK394-160 IC is the only upgrade Hitachi recommends but then the values of the resistors need to be changed since the stock resistors will not work with the upgraded ICs

Toshiba tp50g90 projection tv, red flashing light won't turn on

FYI: WHOEVER told you 110 chips can be replaced with 120 chips is wrong.

Easy way at this point to way at this point to see if chips are the problem is to UNSOLDER AND REMOVE BOTH CHIPS. Make sure not shorted connections and power set up---set will function without the chips but look terrible.

Try Suburban Electronics for the correct chips----only safe replacement for them is the 150 chip----stk-392-110 and stk-392-120 are not interchangeable.

The blinking light indicates a short.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AS I HAVE FIXED hundreds OF THESE SETS.

The colors on convergence dont line up I get a green line. blurry double picture on tv ( the red & blue do line but I dont get a white line)

it varies but most of these sets use two of the STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE CHIPS.

BOTH MUST BE replaced and the protect resistors (easy) looked and or tested.

Total parts cost if purchased on EBAY will be under 25 dollars and if you have some talent it can be a do it yourself fix.

Chips are side by side and have the STK number printed on them and are either on two heat sinks with metal fins or one large sink.

I have fixed hundreds of these sets and if I can do it anyone can.

I will attach photo of what typical chips look like and typical convergence problem (no two sets look exactly the same but you will know)

IF THE photos and information told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

If you have questions make a comment here and I will assist you.

protect resistors for the chips, note the two that are burned or black in the middle--all are low value and a bad one will either be burnt of read like a bad fuse.

Typical convergence problem--most of the time just replacing the chips will cure it.

Powers on for about 5 seconds and shuts off with 3 flashes of the power light. Continues to flash 3 times.

Hi: Three flashes for the power indicator indicates convergence failure, Most failures are the large black convergence IC's on the convergence board, have these replace to restore operation, The Part number should be on the chips themselves. But just in case the part number of the are STK-392-110, Replace them with 120 for extra life expectancy. (STK-392-120)

Looks like 3D - the red won't converge and is distorted

55H70 model uses two of the STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC CHIPS.

If red is skewed and will not adjust you need to replace both chips and any of the protect resistors around them that are gone---Most of the time just the two chips need to be replaced.

You can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for less than 12 dollars plus shipping----

The chips are black in color--2 1/2 wide X 1 1/2 tall with 18 pins each and are mounted on large metal heat sinks side by side----THEY WILL HAVE THE STK-392-110 PRINTED ON THE FRONT OF THEM IN WHITE.

The question is are you able to do this yourself? If you can you can save the set and a lot of money--most shops are going to charge 300 or more for this kind of repair---IT SHOULD BE FIXABLE IN YOUR HOME.

I HAVE repaired hundreds of these sets--just got back home from doing a Panasonic that uses the exact same parts your set uses.

The chips fail because a white grease to quickly transfer heat from them to the heat sinks dries out after time and one of the chips goes.

Let me know if you need more directions--the hard part of this repair is getting at the chips and the ability to unsolder and replace them.

TOTAL PARTS COST SHOULD BE UNDER 25 DOLLARS.

If this information has helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Hitachi convergence seems to be bad, but all resistors check in spec's can you check ic's the cross hach lines will move in all directions but some are bent

I know this set very well, have fixed hundreds of Hitachi sets with convergence problems--

first--did you just go into the customer menu?

There are two ways to get into the tech convergence mode on most of these sets---if the set has "MAGIC FOCUS" PRESS the button the front panel---while magic focus is running press magic focus again --if STOP is displayed on the screen press either RECALL OR STATUS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE--set will go to the tech convergence mode--take a good look there ---if red or blue is skewed most likely one or both of the 2 STK-392-110 CHIPS THIS SET USES IS BAD--NO WAY TO TEST THEM--IF RESISTORS ARE ALL GOOD--you have to replace BOTH chips to see if one is your problem.

You can also get into the tech convergence mode by removing the front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny micro switch on the front of the board (little blue button) with something not metal--touch it with the set on and you will be in the convergence mode.

I presume you know how to navigate with the remote in this mode 2,4,6.8 to move--ant to select blue and 0 to select red---enter button will stop blinking cursor and you use the ARROW CURSORS to adjust---DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS---

What you are looking for is will the "bent" lines adjust.

If the answer is no--change the two chips and see what you have--The STK-392-110 chips can also be replaced with STK-392-150 chips---they are a longer life version of the original chip.

If you need help doing the repair ask me before you begin.

Tv troubleshoot for me

chances are that IC804 has failed. You have two ICs that allow you to converge the three colors. IC804 is used for Red Horizontal and Vertical Convergence and also for Green Vertical Convergence. IC805 is used for Blue Horizontal and Vertical Convergence and also for Green Horizontal Convergence. These ICs run very hot and have a very high failure rate which sometimes will cause damage to resistors in their associated circuits. They are both STK-110 and it's best to replace them both at the same time. It's also a good idea to upgrade them to either STK-150 or STK-180. These will run a lot cooler than the STK-110.

Before replacement do inspect for any open or overheated resistors as I stated earlier. Being you only have problems with Red Convergence the plus and minus power supplies should be okay since they are common to both ICs.

Try www.tritronicsinc.com. They have the Hitachi CZ00433 (STK392-150) in stock for $20.11 ($32.43 retail). These are Hitachi OEMs. I've had very good results replacing STK392-110s with these chips. Do check for open or overheated resistors before replacing these chips

JVC AV-48WP30 will not give a picture

Replace the convergence IC`s again using original Sanyo chips (STK 392-110 or STK 392-180). Make sure to use plenty of heat sink compound. Coat the entire back side of the chips. Also look to see if any of the low ohm resistors are burned. A shorted chip will cause the thumping sound and the set will shutdown. I am guessing that you used generic IC`s as a replacement. They are cheap and the leggs fall off when you apply too much heat during soldering. Dont wory about the CRT driver or the deflection board, they are probably fine.
