Testimonial: "You're knowledge is uneducated. People like you give sites like this a bad name !!! It DOES have an ELECTRIC fuel pump. It's a low pressure/low volume cavitation style pump because the fuel tank petcock is lower than the carb so it CANNOT gravity feed. And for your information, YES, I am a Master Certified tech through all the MAJOR engine manufactures within the small engine industry and equipment manufactures within the turf industry. As well as I was certified through Honda North America, GM, ASE and did special research within the R12/R134A automotive air conditioning industry. And further more, I was a certified tech through Ingersoll Rand, Uryu, Parker and others within the pneumatic's and hydraulics industry... Now why don't you take your "master" status and go play in the street and stop answering questions that you DO NOT know the answers too !!! This is exactly why I stopped using this and other sites likes this... Because of people like YOU !!!"

Hi Irtoolman thank you for pointing out my incompetent error, I did spend quite a lot of time researching your question going through V Star forums Googling fuel pump pressure for Yamaha to no avail then I found one forum that suggested the gravity feed theory so I went to a parts fiche to confirm your bike had no fuel pump what looked like a fuel pump turned out to be an EPA canister so I used that information to base my answer on, after reading your testimonial I immediately went back into the parts fiche and to my surprise I did find an identical canister picture that had "fuel pump" as a corresponding number description. I have over 40 years in the motorcycle business specializing in Harley Davidsons and I did work for Yamaha back in the day, when there are no Harley questions to answer I will answer other brand questions seeing how I am the only one that cares to do so and yes I have made similar errors in the past you are the 3rd person to point that fact out of 24,437 answered questions that's 0.0001% failure rate and I can live with that. I have spent more time doing research for you for "FREE" and found the answer to your question on Amazon of all places they sell a replacement pump for $50 and here are the specs:
    • Input Voltage:12V
    • Pressure:2-4PSI
    • Flow Rate: 50-60LPH
    • Current:1.0A
Please accept my sincerest apologies for my incompetent answer and raising your blood pressure. Good luck and have a nice day. Gregg

Ga_drifter has a good suggestion here. If that does not work for you, check for crimps/kinks in the fuel line itself. More than likely behind clamps/ties where not visibly seen.

SOURCE: 89 fzr 1000 fuel pump problem

It seems likely that your fuel pump is not operating, you should hear the fuel pump priming when you turn on the ignition, if not the fuel pump is at fault, this is not uncommon and a replacement is the answer.

You can not leave anything sit for 2 years then expect to go for a cruze with no trouble. The carbs probably have scum built up in side and will have to be rebuilt. Yes I have heard of this for years.

Car starts but when i give gas it dies on me

your engine's starving for fuel. your fuel pump may be bad. if your engine starts ok and it only idles fine, the fuel pump pressure may not be correct. the fuel pump pressure should be around 180lbs to the motor.a bad fuel pump can either quit pumping,or it may only pump just enough to start the engine, but not produce enough fuel to run it down the road.the fuel pumps located inside the gas tank under the car. most shops guage the price of removal and replacement of the fuel pump on how much fuels in the gas tank, the more fuel, the heavier the gas tank. a full gas tank can be super heavy and hard to handle under the vehicle. suggest that you call around local shops for a price of replacement fuel pump.also call local parts places such as auto zone or advance auto parts for prices of the fuel pump, that way you can guage the price of the pump against the labor the shops charge you. hope this helps and thank you for choosing

Need to know how to replace a fuel pump

Here is what I looked up: Fuel Pump Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove the fuel tank.
  2. Disconnect the pressure transducer connector on the top rear comer of the fuel tank.
  3. Clean the area around the fuel pump mounting flange.
  4. Remove the bolts and remove the fuel pump.
The fuel pump must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and the filter.
Remove and discard the fuel pump mounting gasket.
To Install:
  1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange and the fuel tank mounting surface.
  2. Install the fuel pump mounting gasket on the mounting flange.
  3. Position the fuel pump in the fuel tank. NOTE: Tighten fuel pump bolts in a star pattern.
  4. Install the bolts. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.).
  5. Connect the fuel pressure transducer.
  6. Install the fuel tank.

I Nee help in changing a fuel pump on my 2002 chevy malibu can u please give me steps on how to take the gas tank off to putting it back on. so i can show my husband that his wife can do this

The in tank fuel pump is not an easy task and is potentially dangerous. It will cost about $700.00 for a private garage to perform the service if it is indeed the fuel pump. If you insist on attempting this task, please buy a service manual from an auto parts store. If fuel pumps is bad, find a clean area to work because you do not want to get contamination in the fuel tank. You need to get a fuel pressure gage and in the engine compartment under the hood remove the cap of the test port before connecting the fuel pressure gage to the port. Turn the ignition key on and the fuel pump will run for two seconds, and then turn the ignition off. Note the pressure of the gauge and match it with the specifications in your manual. I hope it is ok, which means it is not the fuel pump. You need to disconnect the negative battery terminal and relieve the pressure of the system by using the fuel pressure gage bleed off valve with the hose of the bleed off in an approved gas container. Remove the fuel tank straps and drop the tank. You are now good to disconnect the pump electrical connector, fuel hoses and EVAP hose from the pump. Note the position of the pump which you need to reinstall the new pump in the same direction. Clean around the tank and pump connection since you do not want dirt in your tank. Place the tank in a clean working area with no sparks or flames from natural gas appliance can ignite the gas tank fumes. Use a scratch all and a pair of channel lock pliers to lift and turn the retaining ring of the pump clockwise. Remove the pump and clean around the seal area. Install a new seal and insert the pump making sure it is seated all the way. Install the retaining ring and the locking tap is engaged with the slot. While you're under the car working on the fuel system, you may want to replace the fuel filter since the fuel pressure is released. Reassemble the tank and hook up the connections and hoses. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and test for fuel pressure again. If all is good then you can disconnect the fuel pressure gage and replace the cap. You may want to consider paying $700.00 than the deductible of your home and medical insurance. However, if you attempt it, I wish you the best of luck, if you do not attempt it at least you know how it is done.

What is the fuel pressure spec for a 2004 tahoe with 5.3 flex fuel. I have low power. Changed fuel filter, air filter and oil and still no power. Checked fuel pressure and had about 43 psi. not sure what...

I would change the fuel pressure regulator first, if no change in pressure the fuel pump is on the way out.I have a 01 silverado 4.8 and my fuel pressure is between 55and60 psi.

99 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins fuel pressure at 3psi

The 3 psi is caused by a failed transfer pump. The problem the loss of could be the VP44 injection pump. This pump should be run at min 7psi. I had the same fuel pressure problem. I replaced my stock transfer pump with a FASS DDRP from The stock pump is over $200 to replace and will fail again, sometimes right out of the box. The DDRP will supply about 15psi to the pump and is simple to install. I hope this helps.

Fuel pressure regulator gone bad have to replace what tools will I need? Any special ones?

When your fuel pressure regulator goes bad, its easy to fix all you need is a pliers and a flat screwdriver. unclip the horses and pull them out. If its hard use the screwdriver. The regulator should just pop out anyone can do this easy fix but you will pay a premium price at the mechanic.
For constant jerks and rough idle make sure your fuel pump is good and filter is clean, check the injectors as well this should solve the problem. looks like a bad fuel pressure.
