put the oil filter in and then the spring and then bolt the cover on, is that easier to understand, what does horizontal have to do with it, all the engine's use that type of filter housing insode the crankcase.

How does the spring go in the oil filter unit on a international 706?

springs in filter units always go on the bottom of the filter. This is so that the spring tension keeps the filter tight against the filter head mount. If the filter becomes blocked then the filter is pushed from the head mount and the oil is still allowed to the working parts of the engine

How do I change the oil?

Way underneath the bike, sort of near the kickstand, is the drain plug. You really have to get underneath to see it. Unscrew that and let the oil drain into a container, then replace the plug and tighten. Under the triangular silver cover on the right side of the bike is the oil filter. Unscrew the three bolts and take the cover off, and be careful not to lose the spring under the oil filter. Replace the oil filter with a new one and make sure the spring is situated correctly. You may want to replace the rubber o-ring for the cover too.

Replace the oil with SAE 10w-4o and check the sight-glass for proper level.

Steps for an oil change on this bike 1986 yamaha maxim 700

Put your bike on the center stand. Inbetween your exhaust there is a bolt on the underside. Use a 14mm with an extender piece. Put a pan underneath, and unscrew the bolt all the way.Oil will drain. Above that there is a "shell" Its got fins on it. Thats your Oil filter. Unscrew that bolt, 12mm and remove Oil filter and spring and rod. Replace o ring with one that came with new filter. make sure its seated correctly. Install new filter, putting the rod and that spring in the correct place. Once she's finished draining, refill youtr crankcase with oil. Oil capacity is around 2.7 quarts. The place to fill is directly above your footpog on the brake side.

Most of XJ bikes uses 15w40, not bad if you use valvoline 20w50 4 stroke motorcycle oil.

Oil drain plug 1984 fj1100

Drain plug will be a 17 mm. Can be on the side but usually on the bottom. If pipes are not aftermarket they should'nt be in the way. If you can't get to it w/a socket then use a combination wrench. Don't overmuscle when reinstalling cause bolt is steel but engine is aluminum....Caution is the word ! Oh yea and pick up an owners manual at your dealer..invaluable...Good Luck to you friend...Tim

Change the lube oil filter on a 84 Honda CBX250

The filter cover is located just above the dipstick and retained by three set bolts 8mm hex. Main cover seal is by a large O ring and there is a smaller O ring at the discharge port. The filter element is a paper type renewable cartridge and is fitted with a spring on the inner side and a rubber seal against the cover (outer side). Best to change the oil and filter when engine is warm/hot - caution hot oil! Thanks FixYa you were a help.
