Question about Suzuki TS 185 Motorcycles

2 Answers

Hello, I recently purchased a 1973 Suzuki TS 185. The bike turns over and starts right up very easily. When the bike idles I can rev it and it seems to work very well in first and second gear. However, when I move up to third through fifth gears, the bike's rpm's will go down and the speed will stay at roughly 20 mph. Even when the throttle is open all the way the rpm's (when in 3rd 4th and 5th) will stay at about 3000. Is it possible i have a compression problem? I checked and cleaned the carburetor.

Check for air leaks. You probably need new crank seals and a new intake manifold. Check your reed valves if you have them and do not hold the throttle wide open if it is bogging you will score the cylinder by running it lean.

Hi there i have a ts 185 and when i kick it it fires and stops with a puff off smoke out of the carby can u tell me whats causing this to happen

Hi, does this bike backfire at all? Noticable as the kickstart hits you hard as you try to start the bike, these bikes used to suffer with cdi ignition failure, eventualy breaking the kickstart ideler gear inside the gearbox which in turn the oil pump drive was also fitted to this,

I have a 1971 suzuki ts 125 and I can't seem to

Hi, the standar for the air/gas screw is 1 & 1/2 turn out from total screw in. Start from there and then you only need minor adjustments. As for the 5 min ride and then nothing, check you fuel suply, start with the buoy level inside the carb.
good luck

Could you please tell me the carb settings on a 1981 ts 250 er meny thanks lindsey.

Turn the mix screw all the way in, then turn it out 13/4 turns. That should allow you to get the bike running and you can fine tune it from there with the engine idling.

Good luck.

Suzuki TS 185 - can't get the bike to start with

if it starts with a bump and not the kick start, it usually means the crankshaft seals are leeking. left one leeking will make it run weak, right one it will run rich.

I have a "1974" TS 185 suzuki. It will not shift out of frist gear.

You may have some damage in the transmission. See if the shifter lever feels free, and returns, as if it binds up can cause this problem.
If that seems okay, try rocking the bike back and forth to see if it helps shifting (engine off in gear) Otherwise, you may need to go deeper inside.
