Question about 2005 kawasaki VN 800 Vulcan Classic

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan VN800a with about 15,000 miles. I've had it for one season and have babied it. It recently started knocking at lower RPM's and with a passenger. Especially from a stop, but it does it in all gears at the low end - any idea what this may be?

I'm pretty neurotic about maintenance. I changed the oil when I first purchased it with about 12,000 miles and changed it again before 3,000 miles. Knocking may be too harsh a word, it is almost like the timing is off. Maybe chattering would be a better word. I looked on a Kawasaki site and it seems to be a semi common issue with this engine.

Have you checked your oil. It sounds like your engine may have a problem internally. Could be bearings, would need to take this to qualified mechanic.

Gas gauge not working on 2007 kawasaki vulcan 1600 motorcycle

Forget the fuel gauge. Find out how far your bike will go on a tank of gas and reset your trip meter each time you refuel. When you have gone about 100 miles, fill up.

I have a stock petcock on my 2001 Vulcan VN800A. The three positions are run, reserve and prime. Do all of these positions allow constant fuel flow when the engine is not running?

Run and reserve operate off the vacuum diaphragm. Prime is the only position that should allow fuel to flow with out having the engine turned on.

1999 VN800A runs rough and backfires at high RPM.

if it lives above 4000 ft then it will need re-jetting.
Is it stock or does it have a dynojet kit? If dynojet then you need the DJ130 main jet.
