Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic
As best as I can remember, the speedo cable comes off the front wheel on this model. You'll have to remove the trip reset knob and the center nut that holds the dash on. Remove the dash and unscrew the cable from the bottom of the speedo. Notice how the cable is routed to the wheel drive unit so you can put it back in the same location. There is usually some "flats" on the cable down at the drive unit that are about a 1/4". Use a wrench or a pair of pliers to unscrew the cable from the drive unit. Installing the new cable it the reverse of removing the old one.
Don't forget to lube the new cable. Take the inner cable out of the cable housing, put a wad of grease in your hand, and drag the inner cable through the wad of grease to lubricate it.
