Hi, technically i'd have you to to first of all trace the circuit to learn what's causing the problem before contemplating on a new module and using a multi meter to run the test as intended by you is a good idea. That will determine the condition of the turn signal switch and contacts.

A tip about how the Turn signal works....

The way the turn signals on your bike work is what is known as "Cheap and Nasty".
All the manufacturers do it this way. The resistance in the turn signal circuit is acutally very important to how they work. When you set the indicator switch to turn, you make a contact in the handlebar switch, and this provides either power, or a ground to the indicator relay. This is usually a three terminal device located conveniently where you can't get at it. The relay picks up, and this provides power through the relay coil to both front and rear indicator lamps. (Turn signals for the US residents.) The current drawn by the bulbs in the indicators heats up a bi-metal strip in the relay, and when it gets hot enough, it bends the moving relay contact that is providing power to the bulbs away from the fixed contact and the bulbs go out.
This bi-metal strip then cools down. It contracts and the moving contact makes the circuit with the fixed contact and the bulbs come on again. And so on. So the lights flash. And will continue to do so until you remove the power or gound from the input to the relay.

Springer softail turn signal speedometer and taillight quite working when installing new bars. Fuse???

Hi Steelcitysig, on a Softail remove seat and directly behind the battery is a black plastic box. The cover slides up and off revealing the starter relay and the system/fuel pump relay for you injected folks and the various assorted circuit fuses. Good luck and have nice day.

1989 FXST harley davidson turn signal problem

Hi Jun_gar, you could have a faulty module, check your wiring and connections from the turn signal switch to the turn signal module with a testlite. Make sure all wires are not worn or pinched and connector pins are not corroded, broken, or loose. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below.

1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle (FLSTC). If I

DeJevu! I thought I answered this already. Anyway, I'll do it again. The first thing I'd try is putting new bulbs in the turn signal lights. Use the proper bulb called for in the books. This is a pretty inexpensive test.

Next, you didn't say whether or not it was both sides or just one side that was not blinking. The turn signals are controlled by the turn signal cancelling unit. I'd try to find someone that had a known good unit that would allow me to try the unit to see if that fixed the problem. I say this because the units are expensive. The last one I replaced costs about $150.

Oh yeah, on the Softail, I think the "tilt switch" located in the speedometer is involved in cancelling the turn signals as well. If the switch is stuck in the closed position, it may be cancelling the turn signal as soon as you set it. The switch is not in the circuit for the four way flashers. You'd have to look at a schematic to tell for certain. Sorry, I don't have one for a Softail.

Turn signal wiring was cut

Should only be 2 wires back there. Look at the opposite working side and it will have 2 wires also, one the same color and one a different color. The 2 wires matching in color are your ground wires for each side. Then you have a color for left and another color for right...Good luck
