84 to 89 1200s goldwings have a pulse generator


1984 models have the PGs at the back of the engine. The engine has to come out to get at them, or I think you can pull the swingarm instead.
From 1985 the PGs are under the timing belt covers. Still not the easiest to get at.

I HAVE A 1982 HONDA GOLDWING GL ASPACDE 1100CC. I BROKE THE TIMING BELT ONTHE RIGHT SIDE . I REPLACE WITH BOLTH NEEW BELTS . I PUL THEM ON . I DIDNT DO MY HOME WORK AND I BROKE A VALVE ON MY RIGHT SIDE I PUT ON A NEW HEAD WITH NEW GASKET. IWENT TO THE BOOK TO PUT IT BACK IN TIME I TOOK OFF TIMING COVER AND TURN IT TO IT IS FOR LEFT SIDE WITH MARK ON PULLY MATCH .PUT LEFT SIDE BELT ON . THAN I TURN MOTOR TO2T ONTIMING MARK THAN I TURN RIGHT SIDE PULLY TO MARK . PUT TIMING BELT ON . TRY TO START IT BY BUMPING STARTER IHAVE ALL PLUGS OUT .TO SEE IF IT WOULD WORK. TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT TIME 60000 MILES INTERVALS.

It has a timing belt. Recommended to be replace every 105,000 miles, timing belt also run's your water pump good idea to also replace, your engine is also an INTERFERENCE ENGINE which will damage your cylinder head valve's if timing belt goes bad. Hope this was very helpful.

it sounds like a drive belt to me,, its that or a bearing thats a bit dry,,,check the timeing belts are tight and not polished,,,

For California models recommended at 105,000 miles.Belt needs to be inspected at 60,000 and 90,000, miles and replace at 105,000 miles.
Except California replace at 60,000 miles. Note 1.8L engine is a interference engine, if timing belt goes bad will cause major internal engine damage.
