I accidently laid my Honda CBF250 down on its right side. Now the starter motor won't mesh with the engine to turn it over. How do I realign the gears to make it work?

    Hi

    Thaks

It sounds do able. I tried that but did not detach the power. Do I need to replace the whitish lubricant that escapes when I open the cylinder?

    All the best

The cover is bent, causing mis-alignment. You most likely will need to replace the entire cover and bolts.

You need to take out the starter and inspect it thoroughly - check every single part for deformations. Then check the solenoid .
If everything is ok then put it back but don't connect the power cables yet and keep the bolts lose. Adjust the position of the starter for perfect mesh then check the fitting of the case of the starter to the case of the carter - if there is some play in there then one of them was deformed.
You now have 2 options: either file the support that sticks out or you insert some shims on all the others.

Yes, it's a silicone based grease that is extremely important for the cooling of the starter.

1998 Honda VT 750 C2 Shadow starter spins but doesn't turn the engine

Hi, Anonymous the starter clutch is a separate mechanical gear driven component that is activated by the starter motor, it engages the clutch pack gear or the flywheel gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one "ONE DIRECTION" only and once the engine starts allows the gear to free spin with engine rotation. If the starter gear free spins in "BOTH DIRECTIONS" then the drive gear has failed, it might be serviceable on some models but usually needs to be replaced.

Where i can find the starter for honda civic dx 2008?

The starter should be located on the left side of the engine. That is the side nearest the front of the car. Typically the transaxle spans a portion of the right side of the engine. You may also find related info on tha Autozone website. Enter your vehicle info then go to "view job diagram" on the right side of the page.

We just put in a new starter but when we connect the battery sparks come out

Two causes of this (if sparking occurs when sarting is attempted):
(1) teeth on new starter not properly meshed to flywheel
Cause: installation of new starter not securely or properly bolted down.
(2) new starter motor itself is faulty right out of the box.
Cause: poor manufacturing/rebuilding quality control by starter mfr/rebuilder.

Also, if sparking occurs when battery connected (and the sparks come from the battery connector),
then the starter is improperly wired.

So, where are the sparks coming out of?

Problem with ignition system honda cbr600f

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description could be any of 2 possibilities:
  • starter relay/solenoid; and/or
  • starter motor.
To determine which, jump the 2 big terminals of the starter relay/solenoid when starting the bike; if the motor turns, the relay/solenoid is defective; if the starter motor does not turn, the starter motor is defective (most likely the carbon brushes).

Of course other possibilities still exist, such as:
  • loose, corroded battery terminals, relay, starter terminal/connectors;
  • weak battery.
  • open, corroded fuse/fuse terminals.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate this at all. Cheers.
