Question about Suzuki 250 SB Motorcycles

1 Answer

I was driving in 5th gear for about 30 kms and doing about 80km/h. when i reduced speed and geared down to 4th, i found that the gears became very sticky. i slowed down further and had to step down on the gear selecter very hard to eventually get it into neutral. i stopped and thought perhaps the bike ran out of oil or something. i stopped the engine for about 2o mins and resumed my journey. i added 100ml of oil anyway and found that the gears became a bit easier. is this type of thing normal. I am an entry level rider and this is my first bike. is this type of thing normal with my suzuki gn 250??

No --not normal
it indicates that when gearing down the clutch plates are still engaged and driving the gears making selection difficult
it is from incorrect oil used in the clutch / transmission
take it to an accredited suzuki proficient service center and discuss the problem with them

SOURCE: 2003 SUZUKI GSXR 600 SHIFTING QUESTION

just input , not resolving anything. but i used to have a similar issue with mine, but i had a gs 750t . it has around 20,000 on the clock. sometimes it didnt want to shift into 1st from a dead stop, i had to let out on clutch, then pull clutch again , then it went right in. the gears are so fine cut in the bikes that once they get worn, even the shift fork, it gets a little harder to get into those gears without a little coaxing. by the sounds of it (without knowing the mileage) i dont think id worry too much. especially if its shifting up and down through gears without grinding of any sort. if the clutch is ok on it (being an 03) i assume its still touchy , ull be ok

SOURCE: My Harley 883 Sportster suddenly became stuck in 5th gear.

More than likely the shifter pawl has broken. Breaking in 5th gear is kind of unusual however, they usually break between first and second.

You'll have to remove the outer primary cover to look at the shifter pawl. It's partially covered by the clutch assembly.

I can only get 4th gear on my 2000 geo metro what do i do to fix it

I suggest that you have to pull the box and do a full overhaul on it. From your description you will need 5thgears and synchros--bearings -all gears synchro kit and may be some gear dogs as well. Consider a replacement box from the wreckers as it would be cheaper.

2010 crf450r jumping outta gear from 5th to 4th all other gears work fine

Terrence >>>> 1. Do not go through the gears while idling on a stand!!!
The rear tire is not moving at the speed that is normal for 4th or 5th gear..AND if you do get the tire moving that fast.. it is BEYOND DANGEROUS!!
This sounds like the 4th and 5th gears may need replacing.. or the shift drum detent for 5th gear has somehow become ineffective.. If you continue to ride this bike , you may cause more trouble and damage to the transmission.

Take this to a qualified professional!!

Does Shift solenoid A&B control shifting into 5th gear on an automatic transmission?

First check the transmission MIL code , that will tell you if it is the Over Drive lock solenoid mal functioning , Do a tranny oil change with filter ,then replace fifth gear pressure solenoid , when you are there already .

I have a 88 Ford Bronco2.9Liter 4wheel drive Mitsubishitransmission. I need a diagram of tranny for the gears.

It's very simple starting at the front of the tranny going to the rear if it's a 4 speed
all of the gears except the input shaft (4th gear ) will be assembled on the main shaft ,,,
from small to large on the main shaft
the input shaft is the 4th gear , next is 3rd gear , next is 2nd gear, and then 1st gear is the largest

now the counter shaft in the bottom of the case ,,, it 's gear labeling will be backwards from large to small
like this

the front of the countershaft is large and mates with the small gear(4th)
the next gear is 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the gear thats mounted off the side in the case is the reverse idler

If its a 5 speed

the gears places above are the same and 5th gear is added to the rear of the main shaft (,the smallest gear,)

the gears on the countershaft are the same and 5th gear is the last gear on the countershaft( the largest gear on the counter shaft ) the single gear mounted off the side in the case is the reverse idler

hope this helps

Gear link or box problem

Sounds like a piece of linkage came loose. If it were an internal tranny problem, doubtful that the stick would be loose. Examine all linkage for something very obvious.

Won't go into gear to drive. may be transmission?

If the clutch has never been changed most likely it is that. The way you can check it is by removing the transmission and looking at the clutch disc. It could be transmission syncros but I am willing to bet you just need a new clutch.
