When pulling flywheels and such, use the appropriate pullers. Some work like a screw on the inside of rotor and directly push on crank end. Some rotors have tapped holes on face to attach a puller that allso pushes directly on crank end. Eather way the end of the crank won't break, and the rotor itself stands a better chance to survive. And it will be a whole lot easier

Pull the motor split the cases and replace the crankshaft.
Or buy another motor.

That is a tappered an keyed shaft, that holds the rotor/flywwheel.
I've only saw that happen when someone was beating on the rotor to try to remove it.

They use junk metal these days and with the right amount of pressure from prying off the rotor could break the cranckshaft there.

Not sure what your question is but as i mentioned above the sloutions for this.

Camshaft and crankshaft timing allinment marks

I don't think they put the timing marks on the main crank shaft front fly wheel any more, since they no longer have distributers. Take out your #1 cylinder spark plug and hand turn your engine crank until the piston is at top dead center, then make your own mark on the fly wheel....I don't think there is a mark any more, unless you have and older car with a distributer....if so...look down on your fly front engine about 5/8 of the way down fro the top of your engine. Good careful.

The starter armature may have been stuck while engaged with the flywheel or possibly just a casting that failed.

2000 olds alero cranks then makes a metal grinding sound and won't start

You need to have your flywheel: replaced.Your starter motor engages against the fly wheel at the back of the motor. Every time your motor stops it tends to be in the same few positions (just the way things work) so there is more stress on some parts of your fly wheel than others. Because of this the teeth wear out on the fly wheel which means the starter can correctly engage on the fly wheel which is the grinding noise.

I cannot get the timing marks on Crank and fly wheel alinged

to be honest it not as easy as it sounds to line them both up,,,,you may need to use a locking stud to do this,, and i have seen engines that just wont line up even to half a tooth out,,, but they run just fine anyhow, its all down to just how good the pullys were cut and marked
