Rookie needs help. I am trying to remove my front caliper on my 2006 Sportster 1200c. The two bolts to remove the caliper are not something i've seen before, a standard or metric (nnooooo) socket didnt work, it looks sorta like a spline, the manual I have does not lista special tool for this, the bolt is the same type as on the cylinder head, please let me know if there is a special tool for this or what I can do too remove the caliper. Or maybe i'm just real stupid and missing the obvious, either way please help

How to remove front belt cover on 06 1200c sportster

If switch requires replacement, the rear muffler and rear
exhaust pipe must be removed to remove the transmission
sprocket cover. The drive belt and transmission sprocket must
also be removed; there is not enough clearance to allow the
removal of the switch without first removing the transmission

How to replace brake pads on rear of xl 1200c

To replace the pads on your XL, remove the two bolts that hold the caliper into the caliper bracket. Lift the caliper off and set it aside. Look at how the pads and anti-rattle hardware are in the caliper bracket. Take the old parts out and install the new parts.

Now, you must get the piston compressed back into the caliper so that it will go back on. I use a large C-clamp or a large pair of slip joint pliers to compress the piston back into the caliper. Protect the finish on your caliper by using rags or wood strips.

Once you get the piston pressed back into the caliper, reinstall it in the caliper bracket. The press the rear brake pedal repeatedly until you get a firm brake pedal.

Good Luck

Straight forward job. Front caliper securing bolts torque

I know that it's a jag, and I know you are trying to be perfect, but in over thirty years, I've never seen a tech put a torque wrench on a caliper bolt. If you really want to I'd use about 35-40 foot pounds. (I go by bolt diameter) You don't have to slam them down but you don't want them to back out either. A bit over 35 is reasonable and should not damage anything and will keep them secure!
I have no idea what nm conversion is..
