Question about 1993 Suzuki VS 800 Intruder

2 Answers

I let my son start my bike and he held the start button in too long I think. When I try to start it now it just clicks and everything turns off, lights and all. Then the lights come back on after a few minutes and it does it again. What does this mean.

When you start a bike, it turns off power to everything but the starter. What has happened when your son started your bike it has gotten the starter switch hot. Now when you start the bike the starter switch is shutting off power to everything. When it cools back down it will react the same way. Your start button switch is bad. Another possibility is the battery terminals are corroded. It is very hard to diagnose without actually looking at the bike. I would check the battery terminals, then the start button switch. If you have a test light, you can hold the light on the starter wire at the starter and see if you are getting power to the starter when the button is pushed.

Harley Davidson Iron 883 model button start system not working after installing screaming eagle muffler bike is 2 months old

Look at the end of your starter. There's a five-sided plate on the end held on with three small screws. Just above it, there is a single wire plugged onto the starter. Pull this wire off and connect either a test light or a volt meter to the wire. Turn the switch on and press the start button. You should see the light light up or the meter should show battery voltage. If you show voltage at this wire but the starter doesn't run, the problem is in the starter. If no voltage at the wire, your starter relay may be bad. I think the starter relay for your bike is behind the triangular plate on the left side of your bike. The relay is a one inch plastic cube just like the relays on most automobiles. With the switch still on, press the start button. You should feel the relay "click". If it does click, you might want to replace the relay and retest the starter wire. If it does not click, it could still be the relay or it could be the wiring between the start button and the starter relay. Since I don't have a wiring diagram for your bike, you may need to purchase a service manual to obtain one or find it from another source. I wouldn't think the installation of a muffler would have anything to do with the starter operation.

Good Luck

Okay i own 1996 suzuki gsxr750 now i have recently took everything off the bike to get parts painted tank, fairings, etc. while i was doing some minor things with the bike while it was completly stripped...

Bike batteries need full charge to start a bike, if there is less than full charge you can't even push start them. No click generally means no charge, the clicking sound is the solenoid working.
When you just start the bike and run it at idle, even fast idle. The battery does not get sufficient charge. What you take out of it to start it, is more than what you put back in it when you run it at idle. Bikes need to be at road speed to charge efficiently.
Also just sitting around they discharge, you may have an earth leak also. That causes your battery to discharge at a more accelorated rate than normal. If it has a clock in it, this bleeds off a small amount of power but still enough if it isn't being correctly charged.

I was thinking about buying an 1986 cavalcade, do you recomend this bike and is it reliable When i try to start it, it makes a clicking noise?

The biggest problem with having a bike that old is getting parts. My son has a 91 Suzuki and the local dealer here won't even work on it.

I cant't start my wave 125cc this light on the meter but once i hit the electric start button everything goes off and we i release the e start button everything go on again.

Your battery is most likely very flat, it has enough power to run your lights but not enought to turn over your engine to start it. Best thing to do is try to bump start it if the bike is a manual, put the bike into 2nd or third gear down a hill, get the bike rolling with the clutch in and let the clutch out when you get to good rolling speed. the bike will **** into life. Let the bike run for a good 20 mins. Battery should be recharged enough to start the bike again.
If the bike is an automatic you will have to use a battery charger.

I have a 93 soft tail, when i try to start it i haer a clicking noise and the bike wont turn over, i took the battery out and charged it over nite, the battery held a charge and the bike still wont start....

If u havn't checked the battery with an ohm meter, do so. If the meter reads 12.50 or higher start looking at your starter. The solinoid would click and a bad starter would nothing. You could try tapping on the starter with a small hammer while pressing the start button. If it starts or at least turns over, u need a starter.

Motorcycle wont start

Check the battery connections, especially if you hear a click just before it goes dead. I know that on my bike, when this happens, the screws that hold the battery cables in place have backed out and not getting a good contact. You would think that with a bad contact that it would stay dead when you turn the key off then back on, but oddly, everything comes back on normally until I hit the starter button. Check the cables.
