SOURCE: how do I check the oil level on a 2005 yamaha

You should have a site glass on the side of the motor down low along the frame rail. You will need to have the bike set strait up and down to get a reading so have a friend hold it up right for you. The oil level should be inbetween the top line and the bottom line that is on the case beside the site window.

SOURCE: Coolant leak - seems only to leak when motor is cooling down

Whenever I have a water leak problem I fix it the way anold mechanic taught me. I go to the drug store and get a bottle of sodium silocate. I drain out my coolant and save that. Then poor in the whole bottle of SS and top it off with distilled water. Then I run the engine until it's up to max temp. Shut it off and let it cool over night. I drain it and replace the coolant. Problem solved. SS will seal all leaks and hold up to high temps. I have fixed broken headgaskets many times and even a cracked block once. So there you have it, a true old school fix. Works for me. Hopefully it will for you.

SOURCE: how do i change spark plugs and how many are there

Four spark plugs, one per cylinder; the rears may be removed with a 3/8" socket wrench, a 4" extension and a 12mm spark plug socket; the fronts require removal of the motor mounts, do one side at a time with the same tools you used in the rear. The motor mounts require an 8mm allen wrench.

SOURCE: Clutch slave cylinder bleeder location- 1997 Yahama Royal Star To

It's located under the left rear cylinder side cover. Loosen the three bolts holding the side cover to the cylinder; you'll find a "trapdoor" into the crankcase. Open the "trapdoor:, and the cylinder bleeder will be immediately beneath it.

1997 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe quits running while riding

Hi, Ed4benefits and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
11. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Fuel tank empty.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
16. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
17. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
18. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
19. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.

2007 Royal Star Tour Delux with 15,000 miles Rear brake issues.

No you should have from time to time safety checked your motorcycle, brakes are a normal wear part and should have been replaced before the friction material had completely worn off.

Can you comment on how to increase horsepower on a 1998 1300 Tour Cruiser, at a reasonable cost.

This is a question asked about a decade too late, unfortunately. The 1996-1998 Standards, Tour Classics, and Tour Deluxes benefited greatly from Yamahas' decision NOT to offer the VMax in Europe and Asia with V-Boost - leaving non-US customers some 50+ horsepower down. The VMax had the look BUT they were being blown away by any literbike on the market, and, worse yet, couldn't compete with the Honda V65 Magna, a bike similarly styled and engineered, introduced four years earlier, and thoroughly "shaken out".

Aftermarket to the rescue! Big Air kits, cams, titanium lifter buckets, four-into-four low restriction exhausts, high-capacity water, oil and fuel pumps, tunable ignition systems, oversize front and rear shocks and springs - the best part for Royal Star riders was that many of the accessories were available for their bikes, because of the similarities between the 1200cc VMax and 1300cc Royal Star engines and suspensions.

Now, however, the older VMaxes are historic footnotes, and the Royal Stars haven't received anything but cosmetic upgrades since 1999. The market for Royal Star performance parts in the U.S. is mostly nonexistent; the bikes are usually bought for touring or cruising duties, not stoplight-to-stoplight bashes; reliability, comfort and appearance are the Royal Star's strengths.

I owned a 1998 Tour Deluxe, and searched the Internet for the parts I had used to personalize it. The two survivors of the last decade seem to be: Baron Stealth Big Air Kit - $249.95 (http://www.baroncustom.com/), and Dynatek Dyna 3000 digital ignition $289.99 http://www.dynaonline.com/). Competition Cams dropped their cams, springs, and lifters, and both Bub and Cobra dropped their 4-into-4 and 4-into-2 exhausts. Some of the exhausts are still available for 99- Royal Stars, but that's no help for you.
