How much torque do I put on the exhaust bolts that go to my engine head? This is on a 2003 Heritage.

I'm installing a 2.2 in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero and I'd like to know the torque specs on the Exhaust bolts and studs. Thanks

Toyota 5afe head bolts torque


Toyota 4A/ 5A-FE Cylinder Head Torque:
(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads and under the heads of the cylinder head bolts.
(b) Install the plate washer to each cylinder head bolt.
(c) Install and uniformly tighten the ten cylinder head bolts in several passes in the sequence.
Torque: 60 N-m (610 kgf-cm, 44 ft-lbf)
HINT: Cylinder head bolts are in length of 90 mm
(3.54 in.) and 108 mm (4.25 in.). Install the 90 mm
(3.54 in.) bolts (A) in intake manifold side positions.
Install the 108 mm (4.25 in.) bolts (B) in exhaust
manifold side positions.

Cylinder head bolt torque sequence-3.4L engine

  • Cylinder head by aligning it with the dowel pins
  • New cylinder head bolts coated with a sealant (such as GM 1052080). Torque the bolts in the proper sequence (1-8) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Using a torque angle meter turn the bolts 90 degrees in the proper sequence.
  • Left side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  • Spark plugs. Torque the plugs 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).


  • Right side rear cylinder head:

  • Cylinder head on top of the gasket and make certain it is lined up properly with the dowel pins
  • New cylinder head bolts coated with a sealant (such as GM 1052080). Torque the bolts in the proper sequence (1-8) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Using a torque angle meter turn the bolts 90 degrees in the proper sequence.
  • Right side exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  • Spark plugs. Torque the plugs 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  • Spark plug wires
  • Exhaust crossover pipe. Torque the fastener to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  • Lower intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  • Upper intake manifold. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

    Torque specification on a 2003 alero cylinder heads 3.4 liter


    3.4L Engine To Remove:
    1. Remove the lower intake manifold.
    2. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
    3. If removing the right cylinder head, remove the catalytic converter from exhaust manifold.
    4. If removing the left cylinder head, remove the engine oil dipstick and tube.
    5. Remove the rocker arms and pushrods.
    6. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
    7. Remove the cylinder head.
    8. Clean the mating surfaces on the following items:
      • Cylinder head
      • Cylinder block
      • Intake manifold
    9. Clean the cylinder block bolt threads.
    NOTE: During disassembly, keep the valve train components together for proper location during assembly.
    To Install:
    NOTE: Coat the cylinder head bolt threads using thread sealer.
    1. If removed, install the following components:
      • Exhaust manifold
      • Accessory studs
      • Spark plugs
    2. Place the cylinder head gasket in position over the dowel pins. Ensure that the THIS SIDE UP note is showing.
    3. Install the cylinder head. Cylinder head torque sequence ’99-‘00 gmpc_v6_14.gif

    4. Install the new cylinder head bolts.
      • Tighten the cylinder head bolts a first pass to 44 ft lb (60 Nm).
    5. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence an additional 95 degrees.
    6. Install the intake gasket.
    7. Install the pushrods and rocker arms.
    8. Raise and support the vehicle.
    9. Install the catalytic converter and dipstick tube and indicator if removed.
    10. Lower the vehicle.
    11. Install the exhaust crossover pipe.
    12. Install the intake manifolds.
    13. Connect negative battery cable.
    14. Fill the cooling system.

    What will be the torque of the four bolts holding the clutch in a Heritage classic? Just notised that two are just loose


    I'm not sure which four bolts you are talking about. Seems there are five bolts in the clutch holding the diaphragm spring in but I may be mistaken on that. If these are the bolts you're talking about, you see them in the clutch assembly when you take the derby cover off, put a dab of Loctite 242 (medium strength blue) on each bolt and torque to 25 foot pounds, normal torque for a 5/16" grade 5 bolt. If the bolts are some other bolt, simply put the proper torque on the bolt according to it's size and grade.

    I've never really torqued these bolts and I've replaced plenty of the diaphragm springs. Usually I put stronger springs in the clutch since I'm building up the horsepower of the engines. I put a drop of Loctite 242 (med, strength blue) and tighten the bolts to about 25-30 foot pounds. Check the standard torque for a grade five bolt of the size that are in the clutch.

    BMW cylinder torque setting all models According to my service manual as follows. Cyl head to engine block (torx e12 M10 bolts) Stage 1 30nm (22 ft ? lb) Stage 2 + 90 degrees Stage 3 + 90 degrees Cyl head to lower timing chain cover 10nm (89in ? lb) The tightening sequence is from inside to outside crossover as normal. Loosening sequence is from outside to inside crossover. Remember to set torque wrench at low setting and work gradually up through the whole sequence until you get the desired torque.

    Differential Torque settings for 2003 Town Car


    New cylinder head bolts are required and an angle guage,or you can make one up with card and a set square. Head bolt torque is 25Nm(newton metres)+60degrees + 60deg + 60 deg so it's a four step process.Con.rod bolts(big-end)28Nm,Inlet manifold 28Nm,Exhaust manifold 25Nm, Crank pulley 40Nm,Sump 5Nm and use locking compound (loctite)Timing cover 6Nm. Valve clearance,set inlets to .006" and ehausts to .010"(set approx.when cold then re-adjust while warmed engine is idling.
