SOURCE: fuel for yamaha dt 125

This bike uses unleaded gasoline. At only 6.7 to 1 compression you can use the lowest octane fuel you can find. 87 in the US is what that would be around here, but across the pond the octane numbers are different. But don't forget the two stroke oil. That may be more expensive than your fuel cost.

you have a bad kick stand safety switch, look where the kick stand mount is, their is a switch with 3 wires, connect two of them together and try it, if not hook the other two together, that will fix your problem.

SOURCE: steps for an oil change on this bike 1986 yamaha

Put your bike on the center stand. Inbetween your exhaust there is a bolt on the underside. Use a 14mm with an extender piece. Put a pan underneath, and unscrew the bolt all the way.Oil will drain. Above that there is a "shell" Its got fins on it. Thats your Oil filter. Unscrew that bolt, 12mm and remove Oil filter and spring and rod. Replace o ring with one that came with new filter. make sure its seated correctly. Install new filter, putting the rod and that spring in the correct place. Once she's finished draining, refill youtr crankcase with oil. Oil capacity is around 2.7 quarts. The place to fill is directly above your footpog on the brake side.

Most of XJ bikes uses 15w40, not bad if you use valvoline 20w50 4 stroke motorcycle oil.

Tip

1974 Yamaha dt360

My friend Dan and I have been working on vintage Yamaha's for over 10 years now. We know a good bit about different dt model's. We are not certified mechanics, so everything we know is from years of experience, and older generation riders experiences. My tip is about the Oil Pump that injects two stroke oil when you give it throttle. Last year i bought a near mint condition, 1974 Yamaha dt360. When overhauling the bike, my long time friend and riding partner Dan who owns about 5 different yamaha's, models from the late 60's the late 70's, suggested we disconnect the oil pump (clutch side) and drain all the oil out and pre mix the gas. Reasoning for this is he has heard numerous stories over the years about the pumps either seizing, or when you lay the bike over air bubbles can form which will then increase chances of the system not functioning properly causing the motor to seize. I kept mine installed on the bike, but disconnected the hose on the inside of the cover and drained all the old oil out, now I pre mix the gas. Thanks for reading.

I have a yamaha dt 200 1996 that will oil up terribly when left to sit for over a day. Starting isn't too much of a problem except for when the bike has been sitting. Any thoughts on how to fix?

Not familiar with that bike...is the oil tank higher than the carb? I have seen 2 strokes weep past the injection pump into the carb if the tank was high. a simple fix to that is to get a longer line and put a loop in it. I have also seen vents on the oil tank get clogged with dirt, then expansion of the oil in the tank forces it into the carb...check to make sure the tank is venting. If it is venting...then I would loop the oil feed line,,,don't even really have to loop it...just at some point the line needs to be lower than the carb, how much lower is trial and error, but oil generally doesn't weep upwards very easily.

Yamaha oil

oil is going into crankcase. it should have a return and a check valve to keep the oil in the tank until it is under demand. more than likely the check is failing due to sitting for 10 years. clean the system and purge the pump. replace the check valve. its like $10 from a local dealer.

My dirt bike is pushing out smoke when i hit the gas, why is it doing that??

Hi, Candice and the usual suspects are:
1. Oil tank/pan overfilled.
2. Restricted oil return line to oil tank/pan.
3. Restricted breather operation.
4. Restricted oil filter.
5. Piston rings badly worn or broken.
6. Valve guides worn and or seals worn, crushed, missing, or have come of guide and are literally pumping oil through the valve guide.
7. O-ring damaged or missing from oil pump at crankcase junction (also results in poor engine performance). For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

I need to check the oil level in my 1985 Yamaha virargo 700 and when it starts all the oil disapears from the glass left side of the bike should it be full when the bike is runnung or when th ebike has...

this is normal. when the engine is running it drives the oil pump which then circulates the oil around the engine. this will empty the sight glass. to check the oil level switch off the engine and leave for 15 minutes. make sure the bike is on level ground and upright. this gives the oil time to drain back into the sump. hope this is helpful..

I have a 2000 tw200 yamaha and Im not getting oil pressure up from the base.I took the oil filter out and started the bike and no oil out of there. There is oil in the bike.Don't know if its the oil pump...

hi gwfu,

tw's are great bike, just have to make sure it is on a tip top shape. you are correct, you may want to check on the pump because if there is no oil going to the filter, then the pump is at fault or the flow of oil from and to the pump may be blocked.

you may also want to check on your seals and gaskets as this may also cause pressure drops.

hope this helps.

best regards,

voodoo
