Make sure the spark plug is tite--may also hav a bad head gasket or loose bolts--if ok then du a compression test-cud end up doin a top end for that cylinder

1. Dirty air filter.
2. Fuel mixture too rich or enrichner/choke left out too long.
3. Faulty spark plug.
4. Incorrect spark plug heat range for the engine type or service.
5. Piston rings badly worn or broken.
6. Valve guides are badly worn and/or seals worn, crushed or have come off the valve guide and are pumping oil through it.
7. Spark plug cable weak or leaking check for spark jump in the dark.
8. Faulty ignition coil.

My 1997 honda vt1100 shadow wont run or idle if i take the choke off and backfires on deceleration and acceleration what can i do to fix this issue?


Hi, Pastortmg1 and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

I`ve got an issue with my 97 Jetta GL 2.0L. Essentially, just towards the cabin, farthest from the front, is a valve of some sort that two lines connect to. It's close to the oil cap. It shot off this...


need a picture. but if something shot off, your oil presure rings on your pistons might be gone. does the car seem sluggish?

i know there's a one wire ouil presure switch next to the cylinder head. but cant think of another sensor besides the map sensor on the side of the intake manifold. that has 4 wires.

You Need to Know If it Is 1,Getting Spark , 2. Has FUEL Proper PRESSURE, 3, you Have Check For A Timing Chain Problem as in (JUMPED TIMING) Any Millage Above 75,000 Makes it a Candidate For Timing Chain Stretching thus Causing it to Jump Out of timing and When It Does this It >>WILL HAVE SPARK AND PROPER FUEL PRESURE)<< To Check Remove #1 Spark Plug and Bar/Turn over Engine (>MANUALY Slowly Until #1 Piston Is at TDC TOP DEAD CENTER) Determine this By Using a Long STRAW Inserted In the Spark Plug Hole and Feel top Of Piston as it Moves Up When it gets ALL THE WAY UP<< Look @ the Timing Indicator Markings At BOTTOM PULLEY and If It Is NOT LINED UP It HAS Jumped Time, Repeat this 2 TIMES WITH 2 CONSECUTIVE Rotations Of the Bottom Pulley to Be SURE of The Discovery.

Piston seals usual begin by overheating from excessive idling. You might add a thermostatic relief valve to help this.

I have a vw caddy tdi diesel van blowing smoke from exhaust what would make it do that.


a couple of things it could be , 1 it might be leaking valve guides+seals if they are leaking the oil drips on the pistons and when started it smokes for a while but eventually clears. 2 piston rings, if the bore is scored or you have a broken piston ring this will cause it to smoke, when engine gets to presure and the oil is thin due to being warn it can seep past either the broken ring or through the score on the bore, you can get it presure checked for that one to see if its 2. 3, being a diesel if the timing is slightly out this would cause smoke and it would be getting to much fuel in the pots to burn and you get a build up of fule that does not burn correctly, but you get other problems with that one, slow acceleration, jerkiness, that sort of thing....anyway hope that helps

Hi ...... First thing to try is replace oil pressure switch if that doesn't work come back. Defective batch of these were fitted.
