426! Check and add when it's cold.Oil will expand when it's hot. There is not a lot of oil in the engine, so the tank takes up any minor diffs. The tank supplies the motor with oil and a slight under or overfill will occur. The main thing is, if the tank has oil.Oil is cheaper than metal.Just make sure the tank has oil in it.Tank has oil.Engine has oil.Hope this helps

yeah thats sound just wasent sure 1st four stroke and want look after it. 1 more question when its cold should it read full on the dip stick, at the moment its reading its empty no oil on it but when i start it for a couple of seconds its reading its full would that be right??

The dipstick is very long.Put the full oil in when motor is cold, level and you cant go wrong. When you start the motor, the oil pumps around.False reading. Do it cold and level.Hope this helps you

Forgot to tell you.Its like a dry sump race motor. The oil is not the all the time.It get's pumped there. So if the tank is full, the pump will work.:)

thanks for the info helped alot.. 1 other thing mite be a problem not sure cause 1st four stroke only ever had 2strokes but when in 3,4,or 5th gear goin easy and when you give it a bit of throttle ya can hear a noise its like the chain slappin but when up in the revs and at a faster speed cant hear a thing. its a real fresh bike for 2001 going perfect but cant figure out that noise is that normal??

To check the chain tension, the rear suspension has to be compressed down to halfway. You then should have about 20mm of play in the chain. Its sounds like you chain is just a little loose. That's the rattling sound.

I have a yamaha 2002 426f that has not been used in 2 years. I drained the oil, When I replaced the oil I could not get any oil to regester I continued to add up to 3 quarts and still could not get any...

The 426 has a dry sump and an oil tank in the frame. You must check the oil level after running the bike, which will scavenge all the oil from the bottom of the engine and fill up the oil tank. Get it warm first and ride it for about 5-10 minutes. Then stop the bike and check the level. It's a pain, but that's the correct way to check the oil.

How much oil does the wr426 hold? (1.2 liters ?) is there a special trick to changing the oil? the bike appeared to be low on oil...i added some, then it registered way above full. I drained the oil from...

It usually holds 0.8 lit and owners just put a liter on it!
Did u drain ur oil when u have cold engine?
U should heat up ur engine first before draining it!
hope that might help ya!

Just bought bike . How do I check oil level ? Light came on added one quart light went off but no dip stick so where should the level be ?

there is a sight glass on the right side of the engine, with the bike upright (off the kickstand) you will see the oil level. you might need an assistant for this. Be careful not to overfill the oil.

Need help on the letter

WR stands for wide range if I remember in 1989 there was the YZ250 and the WR250 both two strokes.
The WR was the enduro model with a wide range gear box. low first gear and overdrive in top
The WR four strokes started around 1998, but Im not sure if the gearbox are much different to the YZF.
In australia there is a compliance plate on the headstem with model ID.

Add oil where and what type , on the frame is a dipstick whats this for bike is a 2006 wr-450

you will need about 1.2 litres of four stroke motorcycle engine oil 20w40 and an oil filter, and change it every few rides. Very important for long engine life.
You use the dip to make sure it has enough oil, but you have to start the bike and run it for a couple of minutes then dip the oil with the stick. Do not use car oils as the clutch may slip.

Where is th dipstick on my yam r1

i dont believe it has a dip stick. it should have a circular sight gauge i believe on the aft right side of the engine. there should be a black plastic cap on top that you unscrew to add in the oil...but remember only fill it up 3/4 of the way, if you overfill a bike that could damage the engine. And always check the level on any bike with it standing up not on the kickstand. Can i get a very helpful thanks
