The general setting is .015 gap when the points are fully open.

I have a 96 civic ex once the motor gets hot I lose power and it starts sputtering any ideas

Misfires when the engine is warmed up usually point toward an ignition issue.If you have an distributorless igniton system(I think you do),you can measure the ohms across the plug towers on the same coil, and compare it to the other coil(s).If you have a misfire,i would think the check engine light would come on,though,so if it isn't setting a trouble code,then you may have to wait until it gets worse so a code will be triggered.

I want to convert to a points igniton system from a electronic ignition system

Well, I won't ask why but you can purchase an aftermarket kit to do this with. You'll have to take the sensor plate and "timing cup" out of the timer cavity on the right side of your engine. Replace the timer cup with a mechanical advance unit. Then, you put the points breaker plate in and set the points to 0.020". Set the timing by bringing the front piston to top dead center and align the timing mark in the timing hole on the left side of the engine. Adjust the breaker plate so that the points just barely break at this point. This is close enough to get the engine started but you still need to set the advanced timing using a strobe light. You'll have to change the ignition coil as well. The coil on your bike is intended for use with an electronic ignition. The coil for a points system must have a primary coil resistance of 5-6 ohms. Simple purchase one for an early model bike like a 74 model Shovelhead. A word of advice. If you're going to do this, purchase the needle bearing mechanical advance unit. The others only last a couple of years before they're worn out.

I can't find the connection point that connects the ingniton swithch to the igniton cylinder

follow the wires down the steering column and up under the dash its one harness and plugs into the pigtail at this point also connects into the turn signal lights wires as well

How do i bypass the igniton

If your looking for someone to tell you how to hot wire a car, your not going to get much help here. If you need information on replacing the ignition switch, or disabling the ignition before cranking the engine over for servicing then you've come to the right place.

Did you make sure you pushed shifter up all the way into park? Sometimes it helps.

i just had that same prob with mine. My Solution: NEW steering collum / key switch
what was happening was the key would get stuck in the igniton and i had to give it a little tap to get it to relese from the igniton. well, by giving it those taps, it popped a little plastic lever in the collum for the igniton switch. then the car would turn on with the key, but not turn off, i had to do the same thing that you had to do to to turn it off/on.

A steering collum later, and it was fixed
