There is a one way clutch and reduction gear assembly in the housing between the engine and transmission. You'll need an experienced mechanic to do some checking to make sure, but your problem is likely with the one way clutch.

Repair will involve removal of the transmission, etc to gain access to the starter and associated gears, shafts etc. Unfortunately, you are probably looking at an expensive repair.

Kawasaki starter not engaging

Hi, Ricky the starter drive/Bendix/clutch is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed, it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced.

Starter will spin but will not engage on z445

The bendix may not be pushing the gears to engage the flywheel. Take out the starter and have it tested.

Starter on 83 fxrt spins but wont engage

Check all your connections to starter and battery. If all connections are tight and the starter doesn't engage, it's time for a new starter.

I have a 1999 Gilera Runner 180FXR, New bat 12V 9 amps. Starter turns and spins pinion gear but won't engage starter ring. If it does it turns ver slow or won't turn engine over. In manual it

Yep, not enough amps to engage the starter clutch, and when ti does engage, not enough amps to turn the engine. You need a 12 amp battery.

What ever it is it sounds like the starter Bendix isn't engaging. Need to know if it is engaged by a solenoid or centrifugally engaged.

Put in new starter it just spins doesnt engage motor

The starter engages with the starter clutch, normaly when the starter spins and doesnt engage, it is because the clutch bearings within the clutch have worn the machined surfaces causing the clutch to stick and not engage when the starter is pressed
