Question about 2002 kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic

Open Question

For the 2. time within a month my Kawasaki vn15 is totally dead. The main fuse 30A is broken and all the others are ok. My mecanic has a big problem because when he tried to find the problem, the motor suddenly started and all were normal again, but he had not repaired anything. Then we decided to see what will happen in the future. After 25km i had the same problem again and now everything is dead again. I love my Kawasaki but not when it act like that. Please help me. Yours sincerely Peter Fabian Eriksen

Probably a broken cable where the insulation has not been broken by the shock load, have a look at the ground terminal area it can look ok but a pull on it to feel any stretch will do it and if not try others in battery area, test main fuse they can look visually ok but may be fractured.

Ok, disconnect your starter and try again. Starter pulls the most Amps, out of your battery during start, and that's why the cables going to it, are practically driven from the battery directly to it with the help of a small relay. You could have a problem with your starter, if the fuse you burn is the big 30A. If smaller Amp fuse is getting "killed", all you got to do is check your fuse box guide and see which sub circuit is the one "in pain".

Ignition lights off.solenoid ok fuses ok batt ok

Hi and welcome to the site,

+12 flow:
  • from battery's + terminal to starter relay's 30A main fuse;
  • from 30A main fuse through a white wire to the ignition switch;
  • brown wire from ignition switch to instrumentation.
Wire color may vary depending on the version.

Good luck and thank you for asking.

No power installed new battery into a 2006 kawasaki ninja zx-6r636

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, by your post of "...no power...", I am assuming that there is no electrical power when the ignition switch is turned on.

Almost always, 2 possibilities for a completely dead electrically:
  • loose / corroded battery terminals, connectors - clean, tighten;
  • blown 30A main fuse - replace. It would be located in the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, follow the cable from the battery's + terminal.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

I hook up a radio and when i try to start up my bike smoke came from the wire and the bike lose all power no fuses was burn out is there some where else i can look

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding and in some versions, there is a 30A main fuse located at the starter relay. To locate the starter relay, trace/follow the + battery cable. There would be a rubber cap. Upon removal, the big terminals would be exposed as well as the main fuse.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
