Yamaha XV 1100 clutch adjustment

Hi, how do you adjust the clutch on the XV1100 virago, this was not on the list of bikes to choose from. I seem to be out of adjustment next to the clutch lever, can it be adjusted down at the motor end, thanks Jenny

Loosen the adjusting thumbwheel at the top of the cable on your handlebar holder and turn your adjuster bolt all the way in .This will put maximum slack in the cable.Go down to the bottom side of the cable, remove the two allenhead screws holding the clutch adjusting cover, remove cover, and loosen the locknut with a 12mm combination wrench,[b]back the screw out(counter clockwise)[/ b] with a #2 Phillips screwdriver, then screw the phillips screw in until it LIGHTLY seats, then back it out 1/4 turn and tighten the locknut while holding the phillips in the 1/4 turn position.DO NOT back the screw out to far. There are three balls inside that will fall out if you back the screw out too far. Then go back to the top of the cable and adjust the adjusting screw out until the gap between the lever and the holder has about 1/8 play before it begins to disengage the clutch. Then retighten the thumbwheel and you're done.It will be adjusted according to factory specs.

SOURCE: Wire clutch adjustment

dunno if that's backwards. Anyway: adjusted to just minimum sane play it barely engages with the lever fully in. If I would have to adjust the lever to any shorter position (for smaller hands) it would probably not engage fully. I understand there is an adjustment at the clutch arm down behind the gearbox. If I adjust there what will happen? I'm guessing I can wind that one in a bit then loosen the wire a bit. Will this solve the problem or will I be back at where I am now?,The arm only has limited travel, and there is a screw adjustment between the arm and the end of the clutch push-rod. Not sure what it is on the 1100s; it could be a hex headed bolt or an allen grub, but it's a bugger to get at because the swinging arm is so close. There's going to be some sort of locknut which will have to be slackened first. Make small adjustments, screwing in towards the 'box, and trying the clutch lever each time. ,,,

You should adjust the cable at the handlebars until it has loads of play and hardly moves the cable when you use the lever, then adjust the same cable at the gearbox end until it comes back into acceptable range with correct amount of play, then tighten locknut.
This is just taking up normal wear in the clutch. Note as guzzi clutches wear you get a clanking vibration noise from them at idle, its normal.

Pulling the lever releases the clutch. Disengageing it so you don't go. Ok, in order to engage the clutch fully, you release the lever and you must have at leas 1/4 inch free play.
If it is not going in gear easily, you probably have too much free play and you are not fully disengageing.. There is the possibility of an internal adjust ment Try the above and let me know how or if that works. Clutch lever pulled by closing your fist releases the clutch for shifting.

Disconnect the clutch cable at the case then see if the there is any resistance in the clutch lever in-out movement. When the tank was remounted the cable may have gotten pinched or moved out of proper routing. If I understand correctly, prior to the frame painting the clutch was okay, but after the paint it was not, and the left and right side cases and clutch were not touched. Obviously you used the wrong brand of paint. The clutch would have been fine if you had used Krylon brand paint. Post a comment and let me know what you find.

Need a yamaha virago 1100 owners manual

Hi, Anonymous the vast majority of service, parts, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 sometimes more and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available, then there is eBay where you may be able to find what you need at a very high price because of its age and rarity. Most of the "FREE" manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. To download your manual please click on the blue links below. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

How do i adjust the idle on my 1995 yamaha virago 1100 cc motorcycle?

On most bikes and four wheelers, this is done by a throttle stop. the position of the stop is usually adjusted by a screw. Remove the tank. turn throttle and see what moves by the carb/ injectors. When you return throttle to idle, the moving piece will come to rest on the throttle stop. You can now adjust its position by turning that screw.
