Sticky float needle, worn needle, bad tip on needle, gummy gas, sunk carburetor float, rust in the tank jamming needle in place. Take apart and clean carburetor, inspect needle, check fuel filter in tank, add extra inline fuel filter, always turn off gas when not riding.

How do you switch fuel to reserve on a Harley davidson sportster

Hi Anonymous, if you have a carbuerator the petcock/fuel valve is located on bottom rear of the left side of the fuel tank. With the long end of the lever pointing straight back the fuel valve is in the off position and no fuel will flow to the carbuerator, with it pointing straight down the valve allows fuel flow from the gas tank to the carbuerator, with it pointing straight forward it is in reserve mode and you have roughly 1/2 to 1 gallon of fuel left in the gas tank. If you are fuel injected the is a low fuel warning light either on the dash or speedometer. If you have a fuel gauge refuel before it hits empty just like your car. Good luck and have nice day.

Engine will not turn over

A FUEL PROBLEM. It doesn't over or doesn't keep running when gas is gone. Doesn't turn over, remove spark plug to let fuel out.

My cub cadet model lt 1018 crank but will not start. battery fully charged . fresh fuel . new carb . new started motor

Hi pepeq5314, has it ever run with the new carbuerator? For now lets assume its fine. Time to check for spark. Remove the spark plug, once it is out reconnect plug wire, ground the plug to engine block by holding the base of the plug to block. Now crank it over and see if it is sparking. If no spark you have ignition problem. If it does have spark, back to the carbuerator. You can put a little fuel directy into cylnder through the spark plug hole and crank it and see if it pops. If it does, you have a fuel problem. Remove the line into carbuerator and make sure you have fuel flowing to it. If you do have fuel flow check adjustments. Hope these tips help.

Scagg with kohler v command engine. ran out of fuel and filled it back up it ran for about 5min and went dead. only way ican get it to run now is to choke it and leave it choked. can u help me

When fuel ran out, dirt in the bottom of the tank either plugged the fuel filter or the carbuerator.

Flush these out try again.

With the choke on, added vacuum helps pull fuel in through obstructions.
