It sounds like your clutches are stuck. If the bike has been sitting for awhile the clutch plates will stick together. Sometimes they will unstick.1st I would change the oil. Then i would place the front tire up against a solid wall start the bike pull in clutch put in gear ,repeat a few times. If this does not unstick the clutch you might have to replace your fiber clutch plates.Hope these helps

ps thank you ive recently determined its a 78 but how can i be sure with the pre 80 vins its not easy im goin by pictures but thats not ntoo helpful

I would not use any thing other than motorcycle gearbox oil in it. Shift pattern is 1 down for 1st then shift up for 2nd,3rd,4th maybe 5th. So it goes 1down 4 or 5 up. If all you have is motor oil you can use that.

Tranny, linkage or ???

clutch, and check clutch cable linkage. Make sure there ain't no or very little slack in the clutch cable. It dies because the clutch is still engaged with the flywheel. Car won't move in any gear because the clutch prolly needs to be changed.

It jump because the clutch disc itself is good, but the clutch is not engaging-the pedal is not making the clutch engage. When it does, then you can shift without grinding, then you can shift period. Clutch pedal operates a cable or it operates a hydraulic system-they both, which ever one you have, move the clutch fork on the transmission bell housing just a bit to cause the clutch to disengage the transmission from the engine's you can shift, see, easy, smooth shifts, no problem, no grinding. Your clutch itself is okay, the pedal is just not operating it.

My 1989 gsx 600 suzuki jumps when i try to put it in gear

maybe wrong viscosity in the clutch cavity, make sure its the proper oil. then think about making a complete clutch adjustment.
check the service manual for making adjustments.

What's your problem?1995 yamaha virago 1100 that sometimes you you put into gear and immediately dies

The Clutch on some bikes will disengage the starter motor. Yamaha will not allow you to engage gear when the side stand is down. Hope this gives you some idea

With the bike in gear and the clutch engage, the

Clutch discs are stuck, put the bike in gear, not running, pull in the clutch and push the bike back and forth to break the clutches loose. Once they break loose start the engine put the bike in gear, hold the front brake, and slip the clutch a little to remove any built up or stuck crud on the plates.

Yamaha Enduro Clutch not engaging

i actuall have a yamaha enduro 100 and had this same problem.
First thing is take the clutch apart take all the rings out and clean them good with momry cloth assemble the clutch compleatly as it came out and when tighting the springs tight them all one turn at a time and after everytime you go around try to move youre clutch with youre bike in gear. if it trys to move it is engageing just keep turning the screws untill they stop. also recomend putting threadlocker on the drive gear bolt and the clutch bolt that holds the clutch on. if you have and questions just e-mail me at just make shure to tell me that i responded to youre fixya question about youre bike and i will walk you threw it.

ps just rember to put the clutch pushrod back in
