Either the light is blown or the neutral switch is bad. The neutral switch is near the front belt pulley beneath the cover. Take the wire off and ground it with the ignition switch on. The light should light up. If not, it's probably the light blown. If it does, the switch is bad.

Good luck
Steve

Shifter stuck neutralI have a 1997 Sportster XL1200. I can not get it to go into neutral. I was riding everything was fine i got off the freeway it stuck in 2nd and was hard to get into 1st. It finally...

Some bikes and atvs can be finicky about doing this on a normal day, but one thing I've noticed is that it makes it harder to find neutral if your bike is still rolling, has back pressure such as coming to a stop, or even if your bike is idling fast. Lots of times you may have to rock or roll your bike while working the shifter to get it to go to neutral. Its also possible that you can adjust your clutch lever up on the handle bar to tighten it when you squeeze. It may need just a little bit more to totally disengage the clutches. That's all I can think up for now anyhow. Good luck and hope this helps.

What kind of oil does this bike use and the tire pressure should be what?

If the bike is 2005 Harley Davidson XL1200 Sportster, it uses Harley Davidson Syn3 20W50 oil. You can use any good petroleum or synthetic oil of this weight as long as it has a API code rating with CG or better for use in diesel engines. Amsoil makes a good substitute or Mobil V-Twin.

Tire pressure is 30 psi in the front 36 psi in the rear

05 sportster 1200 custom making a noise from

Sportsters are noisey beasts, are you new to Harleys if so it is most likely normal. I know when I first got mine it sounded to me like it was coming apart. I changed to Mobile 1 synthetic oil and it quited up.
