This sounds like low oil or engine bearing damage, and last a bad oil pump but if engine is noisey then engine internal bearing damage may have happened,i would check oil preasure first and then go from there,

That's not good, cream coloured oily muck on the oil filler cap usually means water is in the oil. This would indicate either a blown head gasket or cracked head. Somewhere water is getting into the engine. I would get it looked at ASAP as major engine damage can occur if you havent already done so.
check your oil level, color, and smell. My guess is that the low oil pressure light is on because of literal lack of oil to pressurize. Generally when you get that light and a knock it points to major engine repair or replacing the engine. Knocks due to oil pressure can indicate many things from a bad head gasket to a stretched rod or blown piston rings. Check your coolant reservoir for signs of oil entering the cooling system as it will float on top of the coolant. By the sound of it it needs major mechanical repairs
Service engine soon light has nothing to do with the oil. It indicates that you have a problem in the electronics that control the engine and or the emission control system. You must get the system tested with a tool called a scanner to see what fault code was stored when the SES light was turned on. Please read your owners manual.
The oil light is pressure not level. The noise at top of engine is most likely a valve tap. The oil isn't circulation through engine correctly. The problem could be a bad oil pump. Be careful driving the car you could cause major engine damage.
first get the code that is stored in the computer when the check engine light went on. Most major auto parts stores will read that code out for free. If the oil pressure is truly very low, the engine will be damaged so be careful. Changing the oil pressure switch is a safe move. But if the oil pressure remains low on the new switch you must investigate why. The oil filter could be plugged up, the oil pump could be going bad, or there could be a major internal engine problem. That is why you need the code. It could give a clue as to what is happening in the engine.
The tapping is going to eventually wear out your camshaft, as the valve lash adjusters are not getting enough oil. The lack of oil may also cause premature wear of engine bearings. At 225K, there is no guarantee a new oil pump will solve the problem, as the bearing clearances may also be affecting the oil pressure. You may be able to extend the life using an oil additive. If you want to keep this car, i would try a new oil pump. If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need a complete engine rebuild. The light comes on when the oil pressure is too low, when the sending unit is bad, and, if you have too much oil in the engine and it whips the oil so much that the oil pump cannot pull the oil in since it is mainly bubbles
The knocking sound comes from a shortage of oil to he bearings, tapping comes from the valve train under the rocker cover (cylinder head).
Make sure you haven't lost any oil & that it isn't overfull and correct that if needed. Beyond what I've mentioned, you would be looking at the oil pump needing to be replaced or major engine repair if the bearings have spun or worn excessively.
lifters noisy,lots of miles on engine?as oil pressure gets higher and engine warms up(everything expands a little and quietens a little)it gets better,try fresh oil thats thicker for worn engines,and or check tappets(valve adjustment)if its applicable to this engine
well take it back to you're mechanic and have him in stall a master oil pressure gauge and check teh oil pressure this will tell you if the engine indeed has low oil pressure or if the oild pressure sender is bad. also if it is rattling or knocking SHUT IT OFF you dont wana spend the 4-5 thousand to fix it im sure
