Could be solenoid or also the connections. Make sure there is good ground connection from battery to engine and check the big hot cable from the battery to the starter. If you want to troubleshoot, try jumping directly to solenoid terminals. if it doesn't crank from solenoid terminals, the solenoid is bad. Be careful to set the tranny in neutral or park and set the parking brake before doing this, and also be careful not to short the jumper cables!!

Car not starting, battery charged by son's car, still wont' start.

More than likely its your ignition switch going or gone bad. Ok, here's what you do, turn the key to the on position but DO NOT CRANK, let the key stay in this position until the security light stops flashing (takes 5 to 10 minutes) then turn the key off and crank it immediately after. If your car cranks then you will need to replace your ignition switch ($120 to $160). Hope this information helps someone. .

2001 jgc limited has good battery power turn key to start and dash lights all go out engine wont start headlights dont even dim had the yellow fuse cradle out it had 2 10 amp fuses in it after that this...

A mechanic would check for power at the starter and trace back to the key switch. There is a neutral safety switch to keep you from starting the engine in gear that could have failed.

Grand am wont start. it is turning over tho. i tried the security fix (leaving it on for 10-20 mins, then off and trying) but it still won't start.

Hello: Try this, Turn key on, try to start, let k/switch come back to run, let set for 10min(security light out) turn key off 10sec, turnkey back on let set 10min, turn key off 10 sec, turn key on let set 10min. turn key off 10sec. turn key on start car if it doesn't start and the security light is flashing you have a passlock problem and it will require a new lock cylinder assembly and the above learn procedure.

Car want start but turns over

I had the same thing happen to my 2001 Grand Am. Do this.......just key the key, but don't turn it over. Your Security Light should be blinking. Let it blink for about 10 to 15 minutes, it should stay on after that. When it stays on, turn the key and it should start. I still have to do this once every 3 the 4 months, some sort of security problem that cost to much money to fix.
