Look at the end of the starter from the right side of the bike. You'll see a five sided plate with three screws holding it on to the starter solenoid. Just above it, there's a single wire connection. Disconnect this wire and insert a test light or a volt meter into the wire. Turn the switch on and press the start button. You should see the test light light up or read battery voltage on the wire. If you do get voltage, the problem is in the starter. If you don't get any voltage, the problem is in the starter relay.

Good Luck
Steve

2001 Ducati 750ss - Bike suddenly won't start, battery is good, and I can run with my bike and drop it into 1st gear to start it, but when I click the starter button, it just clicks...starter or "

Check to make sure you are getting 12v to the starter when you hit the start button. If you are, then yes,...most likely the starter is toast. But if youre not,..then check all fuses and the starter relay.

Won't start

Multiple issues here??
Why did the motor quit??
Did you check the engine control fuse box for issues? It is next to the battery?
The is an imprinted 'map' under the lid for direction. Check all fuses and relays and post back.

When the ignition switch is pushed all the bike does is clicks. It will push start and run with no other problems.

If you push the starter button and the solenoid clicks, the button is good. Take a wire and jump the two posts on the solenoid or touch the two cables together. If your starter works, then you need a new solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you need to replace the starter assembly , unless the manufacturer sells replacement parts so you can repair the starter. most manufacturers only sell replacement starter brushes.
