Where is the leak? Rear end center? Wheel? If the wheel is leaking oil and dripping wet, make sure it is gear oil and not brake fluid. If it is oil, it is a job to pull the axle out and get the new bearing and seal in there. You have to remove the rear end cover to pull a clip, so that the axle will come out. At least you used to have to do that, might not have to anymore. You will need a book. But remove the bolts, Get a big chain bolted to the lug studs in a few places and snatch that chain about 20 times, wear gloves, it will pull the axle out, Catch the oil that leaks out, or drain it before you start,. put the axle back in, bolt it up, clip, cover, don't forget the oil, tire, all set. Hope this helps.
Where is the leak? Toward the middle or at the right or left sides near the rear wheels?
If a seal is leaking at the end of the axle tube and you end up replacing the bearing and seal, make certain to look at the axle shaft itself to see if it is worn any. This will, at the outset, just show as little pits right where the shaft rides on the bearing. If at a more advanced stage you might be able to feel a slight groove. If the axle has started to pit, I would suggest that you replace the axle as this wear might be enough to significantly shorten the life of a new seal. If the issue is in the middle of the axle, then you are going to probably have either a cover gasket leaking or a pinion seal leaking. The cover gasket is relatively easy to replace, but for pinion seals, you have to make certain that you do not change the preload on the pinion itself, which can change the pinion setting in the rear axle.
