Question about 1997 Honda XR 250 R
I picked up a '97 XR250R a few years ago. Went through the carb, all seems well- except it's hard to start cold. Sometimes REALLY hard. Runs great once it's warm if I have enough energy to ride after kicking it for half an hour. I don't have a manual on it, and I started wondering if it has the correct plug in it. Anyone know what plug should be in this thing? Any thoughts on a different plug to perhaps help with this cold start issue? Thanks!
Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Enrichner system plugged, not properly functioning or improperly operated.
2. Fuel overflow line pinched or clogged.
3. Restricted fuel supply.
4. Gas cap and or fuel tank not venting properly.
5. Plugged slow jet or passages.
6. Inlet system air leak.
7. Dirty spark plug.

If it runs then the plug is not the problem
what is the problem is the carby
check that the choke is operational;, the float level is at the right level, and the ignition timing is correct

I would suggest that you have the valve clearances checked.
Also, check that the carb is clean. Pay particular attention to the PILOT JET as this opperates the idle circuit.

well you can do the idle and maybe fiddle with the mixture screw right on the carb will be a screw and idle screw you need to turn this in 1/4 of a turn at a time with the bike running until it idle ok and the mixture screw you simply just fiddle with this turn it all the way in and unscrew it 2 turn and try this get back to me if not ok

1. First thing is when was the last time you had your valves adjusted
2. On cold start up twist about 15 times on your throttle, as you do that the accelerator pump in carb will shot gas in cylinder, I have a 2003 yx426 & 2005 yz450 have to do to both of them when cold out to get started
